P0031 (o2 sensor low voltage)

Hi Everyone. The other day my x through an SES and looked underneath the car; found out the harness to the NB o2 sensor had torn apart. Now it looks like I need to buy a new o2 sensor; the questions are:

1) Are o2 sensors universal? From what I'm reading, o2 sensors from the dealership/factory cost over 300 dollars.

2) Do any of you have aftermarket Narrowband o2 sensors, that you could link me to. I've looked online but couldn't find one that was compatible with the evo x.

3) Dangerous to drive a while under this condition? I can ignore the SES but will it have any short term / long term effects.

Many thanks.

The cheapest sensors are universal ones. This doesn't necessarily mean "no-name brand"... it just means they don't come cut to length... so you'll need to install and cut the wire as required and then splice on a connector. It's a good way to save a good amount of money... and on my last car it was no problem to splice the wires. We just heat shrank the wire splice... and even tho the splice was located under the car... nothing happened even tho I drove it thru salty winters.

I didn't replace any O2 sensors on my EVO yet. I replaced them on a Lexus I had previously. My mechanic apparently had Denso sensors with long wires and no connector. So we had to re-use my old connector. The universal DENSO sensor saved me a lot of $$$!

Remember you cant really splice the connection as any unwanted resistance *could* throw off the readings. Sounds like your on the right track with wanting a total replacement unit

Why can't you splice an O2 sensor wire? How else would you make use of universal length O2 sensors that come from major brands like DENSO?

i agree. but is there a reason why you didn't just splice the wires back up? or did the sensor itself go bad in your case. thanks
