A vehicle is considered salvage if it has been declared a repairable total loss vehicle by an insurance company, is less than 6 years old, or valued in excess of $5,000 before being damaged, or is a vehicle with a manufacturer’s rating of over 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight.
An insurance company must notify the department within 48 hours of taking possession of the vehicle, either by surrender of the title to the vehicle, or a photo copy of the title, with an application for title in the insurance company’s name. All others must immediately apply for a SALVAGE TITLE. In cases where registration is issued with the application for salvage title, a title will not be issued until the requirements to clear the salvage status are met.
When an insurance company has paid a claim and is requesting a transfer to their name for a vehicle which has been stolen and not yet recovered, a Salvage title will be issued. Upon recovery of the vehicle the insurance company may request a clear title if there is minimal damage.

Geez, someone couldn't handle a stock evo? I wonder how bad this would have been if it were modified or any car that doesn't have the stability or AWD of the Evo?
It really doesn't look like it would be a hard fix. A good shop should be able to get it straight enough that nobody would ever be able to tell, except for that salvage title. I would say it's a good buy if you didn't always have the salvage title looming over its head. You could probably get away with getting a nearly new evo for thousands under what you would normally pay. But if you ever wanted to sell it you wouldn't get **** for it...just something to keep in mind. You would take your loss in the end
