Turbo timer duration

I installed an Apexi turbo timer, but didn't want to splice into my stock ECU harness to hook up the O2 sensor wire.So i set the timer manualy to two minute's if i drive it hard or normally around town. This should be enough time shouldn't it?

I run mine for 50 seconds...... I also didnt want to splice into the ecu but from asking around people say that is plenty. If I am running on it really hard then I will set it around 1:30.

I don't use my TT in my DSM and didn't want to waste the money for one in the Evo. The water cooled mitsubishi turbos will last 200K miles if you just follow some simple rules. Don't boost hard for the last few mins of driving the car. If you get a turbo glowing red then even 5 mins is not enough time to let it cool. You need 10-15mins to let it cool.

Since you are all on the topic, I have the EVO, brother has the STi. Neither of us have a TT. Is it really a needed piece of equipment? I guess I would think that if Mitsu/Subie thought it was necessary, it would have been put there in the first place?

It's just a toy/gadget doesn't really serve a purpose. 2 minutes is way more then plenty, hell 50 seconds is a lot since you don't even need one.

It serves a purpose if your boosting it hard. But you could just let it idle for a min before you shut it off in those conditions. The reason that they didnt come from the factory with them is probably some kind of liability issue. I think the owners manual says if your boosting to let it idle for a min before shutting it off

The heat contained in the turbo charger will begin to vaporize the coolant at the turbo charger after the engine is stopped. This hot vapor will then enter the coolant reservoir tank which is the highest point of the coolant system. At the same time the vapor exits the turbo charger, coolant supplied from the right bank cylinder head flows into the turbo. This action cools the turbo charger down. This process will continue until the vaporizing action in the turbo charger has stopped or cooled down."

this was from nabisco and as far as I know it pertains the the evo also

My turbo timer was installed at the dealership and set at 1 min. The dealership I bought from installs them on all the Evos they sell.
