I believe you heat up the bolt/nut to expand it so it will break up the rust. I've never heard of someone cooling down a bolt to break it loose

I've suggested this in other stuck bolt threads. But the average guy just cant get it. Aviation mechanics, machine shops. Kroil just isnt very common in autozone ect.

It is what I use along with PB - recommend using safety googles if doing this.

You can get an electric impact gun from habor frieght tools for 50 bucks. Up to 300ftlb of torque with a hammering action. As for heating, the idea is to quickly heat the nut so it expands more than the bolt, loosening it!

i do this all the time, i own a muffler shop, the only thing is when it is heated up its more likely to braek or turn with the nut stuck on there. spray a **** load of penetrating oil it might help and get a nice 500lbs torque gun.

i have an 05 with 13,000 miles on it so when i replaced my catback, i knew what i was up against. what i used was a long 17mm open wrench(for the cat), a 14mm ratchet (for the muffler bolts), and a hammer (that is after soaking it with wd40 of course. even if i heated the muffler bolts, i would not want to heat my 02 sensor. got it all off and replaced my catback. everything is good after 500 miles of driving.
