BOV on Evos...WHY!?!

I've probably read a damn thread almost every other day about BOVs being horrible for our cars, so I'd assume that atleast 75% of people know this...so WHY do people with Evos continue to rev near me to let me hear the sound? It really bugs the ish out of me because first, I know the car is boosted, there's no need to prove it, and second, do they realize that it's probably doing more harm than good?

I'm ranting because today on my way home from work i saw 4 evos, 3 of which had bovs. I understand about the sound, but would you do it to the detriment of performance?

well bypass valves can make similar noises...are you talking about any sort of modification to the bypass valve? first off the evo shouldnt be revving you in the first place, but i love the sounds that a boosted motor makes...everything from spool to blow off.

I agree with you on that. My car sounds like it has an atmospheric BOV on it but it does not. I bought one but never installed it. After the intake it sounds really good and there is no need for one.

It's not doing any harm man. Normally evo owners, especially on here have a little more respect, common sense, or maybe class idk not to go around trying to get their bov to go off. I guess they either get off on it or it's a young kid. being that you're on this forum I'm guessing you have a lancer, maybe they're trying to rub it your face, idk.

But again with just an air filter, when you get on it, it does dound like an aftermarket bov or at least louder than stock.

Good luck to ya not gettin harased so much. Just drive down the street and maybe you'll see em pulled over

personally i ran into a kid with a lancer. didn't get on it till he did and then I took off. You're either asking for it or just tempting them so you can see it take off yourself, who knows

I wouldn't worry so much about it. Idk why i wrote so much about a simple little issue but i'm bored as ***** and can't sleep plus I have class tomorrow @ 8

later

I really don't like the whole "listen to my immature sounding BOV" guys that drive around either. It really does give the rest of us a bad image. But, I really don't see where you are saying that it's bad...yes, it will make the car marginally rich every time it releases IF the person is still running the stock MAF sensor. Others, such as myself, have converted to speed density and can do whatever we want with it. But being a little rich for a second never hurt anything, except your gas mileage.

well you doubt but I KNOW what I heard...the whistling "pssh" that I heard is not a wooosh"psssh." My stock DV with no mods makes a "psssh" sound. If i could make it a little more pronounced I'd do it, but that annoying HKS sound is ridiculous.

It's not about the bov, it's about the driver of the car. I replaced my 03 plastic piece because I was simply not feeling good about it and I don't believe it can hold higher boost from my 35r.

I think there are things on the road that are more annoying than BOV's. Like people that are on cell phones, blind senior citizens, women putting on make up. Just get over it, your ranting and raving wont stop it.
