When I first start the car I have to blip the throttle to get into reverse..

I've been noticing lately that i'm sort of getting locked out of reverse when I start my car. It only happens afer the car has been sitting a while.(Fluids cold).

When I try to put it into reverse, (yes with the clutch in) it almost seems like there is a wall there and the car clunks when I try. If I blip the throttle, it finds it's way in there.

I can obviously put into reverse with the car off and then just start it but I gotta know what the problem may be.

I think it's common to have difficulty getting into reverse. What I do is, put it in first, then second then it slips right into reverse...

Car has 15k miles with an Exedy Hyper Single, clutch is fine, aside from the chatter.

It states in the manual that when the tranny fluid is cold it is sometimes hard getting into reverse. I can't remember what they reccomend doing though but i'm sure it's in your owners manual.

I get that sometimes. Had it on all three cars I have owned actually. It's sporadic, but when it does happen, I just blip it like you are doing and it works fine.

I don't think there's any problem there.

reverse is usually not synchronized on manual transmissions, you're actually moving the gear itself, so this is not uncommon for any MT. If it will not go into reverse, put it in 1st gear, move fwd a few inches and then it will go into reverse smoothly.

I sit there and bounce in the seat for a bit to make the car roll a bit then it or shift into a different gear first then go into reverse... i had never thought about blipping the throttle before, but yes ive had that problem with all the manual cars ive owned as well.

Steve is right, reverse generally does not have syncros. Every manual transmission car I've had has had this "problem" going into reverse. I have found a simple way to do it though, without all the changing of gears and whatnot. All you have to do is slip the clutch in essence while you're trying to put it into reverse, and it'll pop right in. This has been the easiest way I've found, and it works every time. Try it out, you'll like it.

I'll give it a whirl next time.

But, when this happens to any of you, is it also accompanied by a clunking noise?

Yes. Advantages of a straight cut gear
