Warning! Buy your own OIL

Just a heads up to peeps about getting your oil changed. I know a lot of people do it themselves and I used to but haven't had the time in recent years. Purchase your own oil and filter if you like if you're going to have the dealer do the change. They charge $7.20 /qt for Mobil 1 oil. I used to buy my own Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic oil for $4.15/qt. An oil change at the dealership cost me $60!!!! There's a $10 disposal fee. SO bring in your own oil!

I'm going to post some pics of my oil cuz I'm curious. It's been awhile since my last do it myself oil change. I just checked the oil after about 5 miles of driving and it seems a bit dirty for brand new oil. I will post pics for those who have changed their own to judge whether or not it's clean or not. UNLESS I can tell if the filter is brand new then I'll know the answer. Dealerships worry me.

My experience is that Mobile One looks black almost as soon as you turn the key. I've never had any problems with it, though.

I opted for the pit pass thing. It comes out to like $11 an oil change.

i don't want to worry you. but that does not sound normal to me. i have no experiance with an evo...but my father has a 01 porsche C4. it also uses mobil 1. when he gets the oil changed it looks as clean as the day it was put in. so, whatever thats worth. also, i have heard of many a dealer (and jiffy lube places) say they do, but actually forget to change the oil. this could be the case. just throwing out suggestions....

either way good like and sweet ride

The two packages are MSRP'd from Mitsubishi at:
5 months / 5,000 mile interval .... Stainless Steel : $549.00
4 months / 3,750 mile interval .... Carbon Fiber: $679.00

So you paid lioke $99 for the carbon Fiber, or was it $77 for the Stainless Steel Pit Pass.

I'm not buying that for a minute. If you got the Pit Pass for either of those prices they made up for it somewhere else.

They worry me too and so are the quick stop oil changers out there. You'll never know how long they drained the oil out from the motor and you never know if they in fact put sysnthetic on your car even though you handed them the oil. I get paranoid like that. LoL.. And whenever I do any of my oil changes at home with all the cars that I own, i let the car drain it's oil out until almost to the last drop of dirty oil.

Edit: I get my oil at Costco and buy 5 genuine oil filters at mitsu dealer for $25 bucks.

The pitpass does more then just change your oil.
Tire rotation,29 point or what ever inspection, fill up your windshield fluid stuff, grease all your fiting, and many more things,
what was cool about it was their was 3 tec working on my car, i was standing their watching them. After that they wash my car and vac. it to.. so it add up to about 70 bucks a trip shince i get 9 pass. for 679$

Bring your own oil to a dealership ? ( or pretty much anywhere)

Last time I tried something like that I was not sure if the guy was going to laugh at me... or throw something at me

I purchased a maintenance program through my Mitsu Dealer (not pit pass) and the recent oil change invoice stated the Mobil 1 oil was $4.50 per qt ($7.20?). Your getting ripped. The program schedules oil changes every 3,000 miles not the recommended 5,000. This is up to 75,000 miles or 5 years and includes tire rotation and inspection (just like the pit pass). Cost $750.

I always brought my own oil for my other cars because they weren't synthetic from the factory. Supplying my own oil only cost me about $9.00 for labor on an oil change. I even brought my own spark plugs for them to install. Pretty much anything you bring them they'll install for you. Sometimes they'll say stupid things like "I wouldn't put those plugs in there" but they really don't know what they're talking about as we all know.

Crazy... I've never had a dealer agree to install anything that didn't come from behind their parts counter
