Stupid question but here goes...When you get a tune, do they adjust the boost level at all? The reason I ask is because I want to do the mail in one, but I think I am also getting a boost controller for my b-day. I need to know what to do.

like i said, my bad. i assumed you had it done at TT's shop. nice numbers for just a flash on a stock evo.

I'm actually wondering the same. Can't I just use the reflash to control my boost? Why do I need a MBC in addition to the flash?

Yeah, and the other reason I ask, is because when I had my WRX, I went with an ECUTEK flash and tuning and the boost was controlled there during the tune and then set for me. I had a low boost level 16psi and a high boost level I could switch it to which was 19 psi.

worse. but it was because my foot got heavier with the increase in power. driven gently it is about the same on my car. i can get about 200-240 miles on a tank. near the low end when i am all city driving and doing spirited pulls. 240 when most of them are highway miles avging 85 mph.

when on the track i see about 5 miles per gallon. or one 25-30 minutes session uses up about 1/2 to 2/3 of a tank of gas.

I thought stock Evo IXs ran 20.3 psi.

Not the later models. Apparently the early IX's were spiking at ~23 psi and Mitsu decided to remove the restrictor pill in the boost line on the later IX's which drastically dropped the boost level.

Ok next stupid question:

Assuming I get a flash/tune then possibly down the road I get a CEL for whatever reason, random misfire or other which I BTW already had and had reprogrammed by the dealer.

What happens when I reset the ECU? Do I lose the flash/tune? Or are those parameters stored?

Thanks in advance.

Yes and no I guess. Mine didn't have a restrictor pill so raising the boost with ecuflash did nothing for me but yes the values are there and as long as you have the correct pill(s) or get them installed then you should be fine. I know Works and probably some others change out the pill and do it with the flash. It's much easier to just get a manual boost controller and do it that way though IMHO.

Get ecuflash and the data cable, download your stock ROM and save it somewhere, get flashed/tuned, and save the new flashed/tuned ROM somewhere. That way you can switch back between the ROM's if need be. I'll bet your tuner probably saves the ROM somewhere as well but either way I'd keep a backup as I've heard of dealerships reflashing ecu's back to stock when in for service.

20.3 psi is the peak boost which it hits around 3500 rpm. It tapers down to around 14-15 psi on the way to redline. What was mentioned earlier is using a MBC to prevent the boost from tapering down so that it hangs at 20 psi all the way till redline if not to a higher psi.

Its still going to taper with the MBC in place, although its going to be more gradual than stock.

So they dropped the boost from 20.3PSI all the way down to 14PSI on the later model IX's? Do you know when this cutover occurred? (I just bought my new IX a couple of weeks ago, so I'm guessing I probably fall into the latter group.)

100% stock 2003 Evo #'s.

Dyno'd 209whp 100% bone stock on a low reading DD Dyno.

About 2 hours later, same dyno, flashed with a WORKS P2 - 237whp. No, I'm not advocating works products.

209whp - 237whp.

As for the other question - use the search button. There's 3 1/2 years of information on flashes out there!
