Do you feel a stock evo 9 is overrated?
Even as a non-Evo owner, I think they are very UNDERRATED. In every way. For the price of the car, the handling and engine potential is amazing. If I had the money, I'd be driving one.

Wow such a load of crap. Each person has a different view on owning an evo. Yes the typical American lives life a 1/4 mile at a time. Others are different. Just becuase one country is not doing something, doesnt make it wrong. If you want a car that can handle....please get an F1.
If you only want advice...From an asian guy, you are obviously ignorant and should stop driving an evo. Many cars in Japan that are used in drifting were not intended to built as such, but people experimented with them. Same goes for an evo. Japan as an economy has no need for a v8 machine, which is typically seen in the drag scene, because of fuel and road design. That doesnt stop Jun and other tuners from making high horsepower vehicles. People want to be unique. I would say a 1000 hp evo is unique.

At least Works/Cosworth tried to do that with their new camshafts for the ix's.

the main thing that really bothers me and why i never decided to get an evo was mainly the interior, your paying 40 grand after taxes only to have the same interior as a base lancer?
and im not saying this because i own a BMW, but id rather have an M3 then an evo9
you can go out and buy a car with similar performance and a much better interior than an evo, its called a porsche, and it will cost twice as much. now if you make a car that performs like the evo with a porsche interior and still costs under $40, i will buy it right now....

i know i sound bias due to the fact that i own a BMW so im not trying to say its all godly and crap, however i am just going off of what i know, kind of like the fact that i know the only way to buy and evo is a used evo, 2003 used RS evos go for what now... $20k?

Probably why we have the highest horsepower Evo(supposedly) and the fastest one in a straight line after only having two of the nine models ever produced. It goes to show how ignorant we are. If you want horsepower and drag racing power, please, go get a mustang. Don't go by a rally-bred AWD race car and expect it to be a drag monster. The fact alone that this vehicle was bred solely to take turns like no other and race in the dirt, yet is still killing people in the 1/4 mile is astonishing, though. The japanese people had no intentions for this car to be a drag-warrior. Maybe thats why we go through clutches and LSDs faster than any other country with the Lancer Evolution. Could it be that this ten year engineered bearer of the 4G63 was not intended to run in a straight line, nor put down huge numbers on a dyno!? Maybe thats why the clutches weren't engineered for fat americans to launch the crap out of them. I watched a video recently where an American tuned Evo with a god-foresaken amount of power attempted to take down a japanese bred evo with barely 400 whp. The japanese evo was bred for response. So, lo-and-behold the high-horsepower guy fell behind in the first few turns, probably because he had some huge turbo that was going in and out of the power band, and by the time it made its 800 something horsepower, the japanese driver had put three - four more seconds on him. I know you all will argue with me, now. You will tell me your opinions, etc. But I'm sorry, I will take the advice from the japanese people, who not only made this car, but have had it long before most of us knew what it was.
You very right about how most of these american EVO owners want a gt30 blah blah turbo and to do a 10 in the 1/4.
I would never concentrat on drag racing, but I do it and like it. I love taking my car to any motorsport event, weather it be drag racing, road racing, auto X and the touge. I understand what these cars were made for (and its not strait lines), but it doesnt mean you cant run some 1/4 miles every now and then.
Basically what I'm saying is I would never put a part on my car with the hope of just running faster in the 1/4. Its all about bulding a well rounded car that can kick *** on the road couse, have fun on the touge and beat a lot of imports at the 1/4 (maybe not the american EVO guy with a GT35 and 500 billion HP).
Thats the difference between Japanesse and American tuners.
Japaness tuners know a car has to be well-rounded and not just excel at drag racing.

Buying an Evo to go drag racing with is pointless. Why spend all the money to drag race an Evo when you could of built a DSM or mustang for $10,000 to run 9's all day long? You have missed our point. The Evo is what it is because of its handling, not its straightline acceleration capabilities. If you want to go fast and straight, buy an older car to modify. You will go much faster for a much smaller amount of money. However, there is nothing wrong with taking the Evo to the dragstrip every once in a while to test performance, but to me its pretty mind numbing to see a dedicated Evo drag car...

A lot of people have picked up the GSR's for 32k with TTL. That ain't bad at all.
i agree to with Varrius. i just got my 03 not too long ago and won't mod it for the 1320. i was never really a fan of drag, even though i have an fully built N/A integra. to me, as others here, it's all about modding the suspension to handle your motor so you can push her through turns. you may have high horsepower numbers, but can ur suspension handle the power to keep u fast while maintaining grip? balance is key. you could smoke a stock lotus on time trials with a CRX (w/ a ZC+suspension) as i have seen.
i would not call the EVO overrated. keep the car in it's tradition and use it for turns and what it's made for. HP and 1/4 mile timeslips are good to brag about, but it feels better when u take out a 1200 supra at the AutoX time trials.<---- just an example.
there is a video where the evo was chasing the Murcielago (spelling? and i found it on YOUTUBE) and it was keeping up pretty good on the track.... you be the judge.
