Question whp over torq. or torq over whp??

I've notice alot of cars with similar mods to one another have very different power output. Some cars have more whp than torq. Others have more torq. than whp. Also, I notice cars peaking hp earlier than others. I'm guessing this will vary from tuner to tuner, but what is ideal for let's say, Drag Racing? WHP over Torq.? or Torq. over WHP?

Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races.

Silly question. You need both. Good torque to get ya going and hp to keep truckin lol. I think that is why my car kicks so much *** on the street. Check out my tq and hp. My power curve is unreal.

^^^ +1...Theres no point to havin the 800hp at 7k rpm but down low the power of a geo metro. Torque gets you off the line and out of the turns.

Another note: The stock turbo kicks *** so much on EVOs because of its quick response and huge torque in the low-mid range and it can still pull great hp numbers to boot. A lot of times people upgrade and make an additional 40whp but lose 40 ft'lb of torque. Its a trade some people like me are not willing to give up.

Sorry if it was a silly question. I was just curious on some reflashed dyno sheets, I came across. I've seen same year cars with same exact mods, boost and fuel, but reflashed from different tuners. One car pulled 300whp@6750rpms/310ft.lbs@3750rpms Other car pulled 303whp@6000rpms/290ft.lbs@4000rpms.

So I was like, WTF?! Why do they peak at different rpms? Who's got the better tune?

Personally, I would take car #1's powerband for drag. Car#2 looks like it'll run out of steam up top.

It seems to be 50/50 on this topic.

If we can get a flash tuner to chime in on this topic, we can get a better idea on what's more ideal for certain type of driving....i.e. Drag, Road racing, daily driven.

This topic is not as silly as it sounds. Every tuner has there way to flash a car. which way is better? I know, I know...it's self preference. BUT, let's say you take your car to "tuner X", a well, reputable tuner. You hope for high whp, but instead your torque # is higher than hp. Are you satisfied?

Some throw alot of timing into the map creating that high torque over whp. Some bring some of the timing down low to bring in more boost creating whp over torque. Then there is the rare few that try to create a reliable 50/50 tune, but the hp and torque #'s are very conservative.

As a Drag Racer, what do you flash for?

a tuner to comment would be nice...i'd think for road race you want more tq and as soon in the band as possible. for drag, just as much of each that can be attained...??

^ Also depends on when that peak HP # is. I'd rather have 500hp from 4K rpms to redline than 700hp 1K rpms before redline.

I'll take TQ over HP. I've had a high HP torqueless wonder and it's not as much fun. I like that straight kick in the butt when I mash the throttle. For racing though, it's the other way around.

I like a nice combo, for drag racing though you want more hp than torque...
