How can you tell if your engine knocks after tune?

Question How can you tell if your engine knocks after tune?

i know that engine knock is always a big concern... especially after a tune... but if you didnt know (cuz the tuner didnt tell u) how can u tell if your engine knocks? isnt it a very subttle sound? and how can that affect your car in the long run?

Cable is like $90 evoscan is around $15 and laptop anywhere in $. The cable plugs into the obdII

You could post in the area forums i.e. mid atlantic and see if anyone near you has the hardware.

Meet up with them and do some logging.

Or, you could go to a reputable shop that has the hardware and have them log it for you.

im having problems installing, says i need another program to run, and although i swear ive downloaded 10 different ones... none work, anyone downloaded this or have the program ? thanks

your tuner should tell you...its an important part of the tuning. if they dont, ask.

Yeah, lots of people use Evoscan - myself included. Install XP Service Pack 2 and the .NET Framework 1.1 and it should load just fine.

with the noise my car makes I cant hear any knock.
If you are looking for an answer for your Nissan the flash cable won't help. don't think he has software for you(?)
a good tuner will have a set of det cans.. earphones connected to your block, that is the cheapest I can think of.
find a tuner with the cans and have him give a listen.

thanks brad...i finally got it actually, i had to download 4 different programs, and since i am on a pirated xp, i dont get too many royalties anymore although i do have sp2 installed ... anyhow, its working now... do you think you could PM and give me a rundown of how to use the software, what gauges you run when the program is open, and what other things you did to set it up....
