Trade in Evo VIII for EVO IX or MR?

Hey guys,

I went to Medina Mitsu yesterday, and right now I'm debating if I should trade in my 2003 Evo VIII with 41K miles for a new 06 Evo IX or MR.
First - is MR even worth getting, or $4000 over Evo IX price is waste of money?. Right now I have couple mods on my car that I'm going to take off and just wondering if they will work on IX or MR? I have HKS Carbon Ti cat-back, Slick's downpipe and test pipe. I also have Injen intake and UICP and Forge BOV.
My EVO is in good condition.
Is Evo IX better than Evo VIII and if it is, then by how much?

I was offered $20000 for my evo, and Kbb kind of lists that (for private party it's $22000) then new IX is $32000, I could probably get it for $31xxx, and the MR is $36xxx. Right now I owe $18000 for my evo and my payments are exactly $400 a month, with the IX it will go up to $524 and extand by a year. At this point I don't really know what to do... Or the hell with it and just keep modding my Evo VIII?????

I would hang onto your VIII. I don't think there is that much of a difference with the IX or the MR. At least not enought of a difference to warrant an extra $100+ a month for an extra year.

Just enjoy your VIII for another year and by then the X will be out and then hopefully there will be more of a difference that will make it more worthwhile.

At least that's what I'm thinking with mine.

Save yourself alot of money and enjoy your Evo VIII.

I almost traded my 05 in for an 06 MR IX.
They were going to give me 25,000 for my 05.

All said and done, I'm very happy I didn't.

Another $100 per month for say 4 years is $4,800, plus your payments are extended for a year, so add another $6,000 or so to that. Is the IX worth another $11k, I doubt it.

Keep the VIII. I too have a 03 with 42k on the clock and wouldn't make the switch either.

Wow, I do feel better now. I though the IX conciderecd high class, all I heard was how good it was, but I never actually drove one. And I was thinking about keeping it. I wanted to take mine to Buschur's next month for Al's dyno tune, after putting walboro....

You are in the same boat as me. I almost did the deal one day myself. I keep hearing about the guys makin so much power with the IX that it makes me wish I had one! However, I started to think about it. Not only would I have to start over modding but consider the cost of the exchange. When you figure the hit you take on the trade in and the additional cost of the new car (including probably higher interest) that equalls a lot of money!! If you just put that same money into your current car you would be waaaaaaay happier!

(current car + pice difference of the cars put into mods) > Stock IX

I mean even the difference just in what you said about 20k for the current car subtracted from the 31k price of the new one is 11 large!! You could build a pretty nice car that you would enjoy Hella lot more then the IX!!! IMO

I traded in my 2003 for a 2006 and love it. Guess I'm in the minority but the additional upgrades make a difference. The IX SE is the best deal out there. Differences between it an your 03:

MIVEC + improved turbo
Aluminum roof
front LSD (this is the biggest improvement to handling IMO)
forged rims
RS gearing on the 5 speed
leather + alcantara seats
ACD

The engine alone supposedly has 40+ additional HP over the 03, and a lot more tractable. Top gear acceleration from 70-90 is a breeze.
