Hit by an 18 Wheeler on Friday night
Was hit by an 18 wheeler coming home from the office on Friday night. If it wasn't for the brembos and the Ecsta ASX's i installed that morning - I would be in a gurney right now.
It was dark and wet and I was established in my lane, the trailer pulled out of a hidden driveway perpendicular to me. I slowed down from 45 to about 15 mph and was able to steer a little around towards the front of the cab - before ending up on the curb on the opposite side of the road.
I had no whiplash, not a scratch - and walked out of the car unhurt. Of course, the truck didn't have the smallest bit of damage.
From what I rememeber, I scuffed the front passenger side of the bumper on his tire.. got the front end pushed under his bumper - denting my hood and smashing the right side fender and headlight. Somehow the BBS wheel spoke bent and snapped right off.. scraping a little caliper paint off. Then the side skirt popped off because somehow the wheel well and passenger door hinge got a little crushed.
No airbag deployment.
The flatbed tow truck had to pull the car up, because the front right tire was jammed up against the well.
Thank god that no one got injured. Have to give huge credit to Mistu. Kumho and Geico.
Just waiting on an estimate on the damage. Hopefully they will understand to look for stuff not visible on the outside.

You folks are why I'm proud to be a part of the evo community.
I was feeling relatively OK over the past few days, but then I saw the pics from the estimator this morning and realised that the wheel took the full force of the impact. I slammed into, most likely, a lug nut from the big rig. I started to shake thinking about what would have happened if I was hit anywhere else.
The estimate seems very complete at first glance. The body shop have the car now, and will take her apart to check for any damage to the shocks, rotors.
Including labor, the estimate is $10,200 - which is what I had estimated.
Minus my deductible, the insurance will cover it.
I'm really impressed with them so far.
I'm feeling better that the car is getting the attention she needs, and am just hoping that the shop will do a great job. I'll keep everyone posted - and then disclose the body shop and the quality of the work.
Thanks again everyone. I'm feeling really fortunate to be alive.
