200/day??? where??? sign me up! thats uber cheap for a track event

i'm usually paying any where from 280-500 for a track event weekend

but on second thought maybe you just meant per day instead of per event which is usually per weekend in which case you are right.

Stop yer whining! Here in CO, we only have 2 tracks within 600 miles, and they are both podunk tumbleweed landing strip type tracks. We also have no events from November to March due to the climate. It sucks waiting so long for next season, hah!

In AMERICA MOST folks tune soley for 1/4 mile so that they can be ready to SMOKE the Competition at thier Weekend Race Hangout's in thier area!!

Of course in NE Philly it's the "Roosevelt Drag Strip" on a Saturday Night (our OWN version of Michigans Famous Woodward Ave.)!!!

I think drag racing is a good way to test the performance of your Evo, but it sure is pointless having a drag dedicated Evo. If you want to drag race, buy a cheaper car. There is absolutely no reason to waste 30k on a car just to drag race it. DSM's are MUCH better at drag racing than Evo's are, and are WAY more inexpensive to modify/purchase. If you have an Evo, you are not making full use of the car's capabilities unless you track/autoX with it.

I have never had my car at a drag strip. I suck at drag racing and I am ok with that.

I am obsessed with road courses though and i will do that until I die! (or my evo dies...again :P)

Drag to test and tune power - open track for the full experience.

smarsenal - check out the Racing, Tuning, and Dyno area on mievo. I did a write up on a open track day @ Grattan (rain/wet/ok dry day).

Its hard to think in bhp and 330-350whp isnt that far off for a IX.

i prefer auto cross to drag racing. but i rarely pass up the chance to do a couple pulls down the 1/4 mile.

autoX is pure exileration though.

i can't wait to get it out on a road course next spring.

SmikeEvo,
One of my good friends races his motorcycle at Grattan. I was thinking of getting out on Gingerman this spring too. Thanks for the heads up on mievo. I've got a lot of reading to do in order to catch up on tuning an EVO. My prior car was a B7 Audi S4 , naturally aspirated 4.2 L V8. Turbos/forced induction are new to me. Just ordered the "Tuning an EVO/4g63 by david patterson". Any thoughts on this book?

Bongo, if you think AutoX is exhilirating, you may have a heart attack on the road course the first time due to sheer excitement. Road racing makes autox feel the way autox makes drag racing feel: lame.

+1 for road course. put track pads on the car and go nuts. Learn tracks before you mod. You will be wasting money and time, and most of all, prestige.

Getting fast at tracks takes time and practice, and $$ for fees, tires, brakes.. Use your money for that, you'll be faster than with mods. I swear. When someone you've passed asks you "what have you done to it?" you can say stock, with pride.

good luck

I, myself, am interested in road racing. I 've already taken a few driving classes and intend to really have it on the track a lot this next spring. My goal bhp is probably around 350 hp. Eihter way, strip or track, Evos rock!!!

You would find more interest in drag racing simply because it’s cheaper. Racing your EVO on the road track is not cheap but on the other hand it’s a lot of fun.

Now some people like drag racing and I respect that but from my view drag racing is only few seconds that consist of going in a straight line when circuit racing requires much more skills.

Now some won’t agree with me

Anytime. Check out: http://www.3ballsracing.com/

I went with them for the Grattan open track day. Good group of drivers.

Believe me, I was in your shoes once too. I come from the Vette camp, with a C3 Vette built 350 motor, and 96 Impala SS w/LT4 before I went to a ZX3 2.0L Focus and now my Evo.

As far as reading goes - you can never read too much.
