$2 a gallon, wow. That's cheaper than regular 92 octane at my local station.

Well, understand that for $2 a gallon, your getting 2/3 the mileage, so you net about the same cost per mile as with gasoline..

From a performance and emissions standpoint, I definitely want to run E85 as my pump fuel choice.. I built my car with that intention in mind (hence the large turbo and larger than necessary injectors) Of course, I've said this before, and intend to jump into these sorts of threads until we can get E85 in my area.

I wonder if the Alcohol will have any adverse affects on any of the internal engine parts or fuel lines (it is corrosive over time)...anyone have any input? Alcohol + boost have always been a good combination. Shep runs 7's and he uses 100% alky now (I think he uses meth though)

now that i've finally got my 93 octane tuned as good as its gonna get, i plan on filling up with E85, scaling the injectors, and cranking the boost as high as the stock turbo can go fortunately we have a E-85 pump in the area now too.

fuel system definately needs to be upgrade to prevent corrosion on the E85.

most of the system is fine. rubber of course needs to be replaced. Most everything in the factory system would be fine. Allot of people have been running ethanol on factory orings and have been fine but the best and safest way to do it is just make sure that the entire system is alcohol safe.

Another downside to E85 other than the reduced MPG is that ethanol is allot more harmful if you have knock. With gasoline (C16 even) if you have some knock present in a slightly poor tune, the knock will only slowly increase more or less linearly, more contolably, however with ethanol it will your knock rate will grow expodentially resulting in huge spikes in cylinder pressures. So please tune the car in well if you plan to run E85.

It is nice having a higher octane fuel available at the pump though .

Currently Ethanol is expensive to produce cleanly and the current government subsidy is what keeping the price down. (Yup the gov pays the manufacture on the volume output) Just something to think about.
