Minimum cost to outrun a 2007 Corvette Z06?

My cousin just purchased a 2007 Z06 (very nice, very fast). We got to talking and, though I freely acknowledged that his car is superior to mine in essentially every way, I was wondering...

How much would it cost - minimum - to get my 05 VIII to the point where I could race him from a dig until 160 mph and stay ahead the whole time? This is purely hypothetical, of course, so the moderators need not be concerned that I'm advocating an illegal race. I was just curious what it would take to prevail in a race like this. I'm assuming that I would need a bigger turbo to exceed his top end ability.

And the ballpark cost of all this? I'm rather ignorant on this issue but I'll go ahead and guess $6K. Am I way off?

You'll have major problems staying ahead to 160. Aerodynamics are much better for the Vette. Talk him into a 1/4 mile run or a race on a road course and it should be much easier, still not easy, but easier.

whats the difference between forced induction from a big turbo and wet nos, nothing. the idea is to cramp as much fuel/oxidizer into the motor

there is turbo lag, but no nos lag

Owned I doubt that seriously in theory a well driven EVO with 475whp could run a better E.T on street tires, but I'm sure the Z06 would be right with it by 160mph due to better gearing and aerodynamics. IMO a EVO would need closer to 525 whp to stay ahead until 160mph given equal drivers.

Just remember he throws in just a filter/exhaust/tune he's up 75whp add a cam he's up and over 600whp.

There is a video on Buschur's site, I won't link it for fear of moderator lashings, but it's on Buschur's site under video.

His mods are in the video and he has closer to 20K in the car counting install he ran neck and neck with a stock Z06 to almost the top of 4th. Far more than 6k though. Then loses to a TT C5 Z06 pushing 614whp.

You'll need a lot more than 450whp in an evo to take a Z06 all the way to 160mph. More like 600whp. The Z06's gearing and superior aero will win out. A bone stock Z06 makes 450whp and over 500whp with just a couple of mods, and it weighs 250lbs less than an EVO IX.

its gonna cost WAY more then 6k if you go with the AMS Gt35R set up...and to out run a z06 you can do it on pump gas..i put down 418awhp on pump and i believe a z06 has 405 to the crank..which is about 490hp at the crank for me...

bu tmy parts on sig with a pump tune and race tune is about 11k
