Loud BOOM and then car felt like its only on 2 cyclinders

DAM!!! I take good care of my EVO 8 and then at 53K miles just going to work she started idling rough a bit just enough to notice from a stop. Then while slowing down for a stop sign i hear a boom in the engine compartment and i knew it was bad... I hear this noise like air is rushing out and i barely have any power. Felt like my old Civic he he he. Well I pull her over and open the spark plug cover and i see one of the distributor/coil pack thing over the spark plug had exploded and thus 2 cyclinders are not firing. The rubber boot looks like it had a small explosion and I see pieces of it everywhere. Well car is stock except for springs so hopefully all goes well at the dealer. Had it towed in just to make sure I do not further damage the engine. This sux big time.

Definately sucks, I hope you still have a warranty Without any engine mods, it should be covered without hassle. Let us know what the official diagnosis is and if the dealer covers it. Good Luck.

I honestly don't know ,hence the ?. It does however seem that at around 50K you would at least inspect the ignition system and look for any corrosion etc., in a hope to prevent a problem before it started. But again, more of a question than a retort

Build a motor because a coil pack exploded? Geez, that's reaching a little bit isn't?

Oh, my spark plugs are used up time for a stroker!

UPDATE:

Well I went to Planet Mitsubishi in Modesto because it was the closest one here and did want to tow it back to to Steven's Creek Mitsu over 60+ miles away. I was ready for a winded battle with the service reps but to my surprise they where really nice. They had my Evo in for about 2 days because the part was not in stock. I mentioned to them about the spoiler flaking and when I picked up the car they had already ordered me a replacement. Well, a week flew by and I took the evo back for the replacement spoiler. Old one was flaking and looked very nasty with that crap clear coat. A brand new evo 8 spoiler, not the evo 9 one, was used to replace the wing.

I'm sure some will disagree, this was my personal experience with Planet Mitsu, and the guys at the Service dept where great.

Part replaced: Coil pack thing above the spark plug and spoiler.

If you just maintain and wax your wing often you wont ever have that problem. However, glad to hear your up and running
