This is so weird... I am having the same problem too. Just out of the blue it starts like making this crazy loud like rattling for about 5-10 seconds and then just goes away. You think it may be the same on my car also?

I thought that it was the fan or something because it sounds like the rythym of a fan as the noise stops. I am not sure what it is, but I am going to get it on a lift saturday to check things out. Have you tried to tighten any bolts or nuts or anything? I planned on changing my downpipe on saturday anyway. Good timing, as long as the other noise gets fixed. Let me know what you have tried or what you have found. Talk to you later, Dade.

Yeah, holy thread revival I know...and I don't even have the same car...but my X does this!! Whenever it rains hard is sounds like I have water in my engine and makes this horrible metallic scratching sound that just vanishes and can never be replicated but scares me sh!tless. I have a STOCK dp, but do have a test pipe. Sounds like the engine bay though...I am tuned. HELP!

Happens to me as well..
I've always thought it was a Differential noise.
I'm not an expert on differentials.. but for some reason it always felt like something was locking.. kinda like a differential.
I have an 03 VIII.
HKS Intake... UR Test Pipe and B&B Exhaust and Helix DP.

I've had this issue for a while in the rain and recently started doing it even when it's dry out. I tried a few different things and even really thought it was all from the drive shaft but today swapped out the exhaust hangers with the same style from auto zone and all the noise/vibration has finally ceased! They are about 1CM longer and allows the exhaust to hang down just a tad more and off the undercarriage. I suggest trying this as it is pretty simple and cheap and in my case, has solved the issue so far. Will repost after next good rain
