Break in procedure.
Break in procedure.
Very good show on National Geographic channel in HD on right now about the new $260,000 599 GTB Fiorano Ferrari. The reason I mention this is because of some of the threads I’ve seen on this forum about breaking in the EVO. What Ferrari does to break in this car is drive it out the back door of the factory right onto their test track for some full throttle runs and some ABS and traction control testing. Very interesting show with a super high tech factory and great car.
I think it is because of all the misinformation out there. From what I understand, the engine should see all driving conditions during that period, especially full throttle to seat the rings properly.

Evo engines aren't hand built. Appying Ferarri break-in procedures to an Evo makes as much sense as assuming your $200 dive watch can handle the same pressures as a $5000 Rolex.

well you are right about breaking in the Evo...you need to make sure the engine sees the whole RPM range to seat the rings properly. but that my no means says "beat" on the evo to break it in...all that means is make sure you take it to redline and back down. you can take your car to redline without "beating" on it.
Get a clue.

I know lots of people break-in their Evos hard without any obvious detriment, but I trust Mitsubishi to give me sound break-in advice and to stand behind it their is a problem. If you break-in your Evo hard and something goes wrong, Mitsubishi would be completely justified in denying warranty coverage. Will Ferrari, Buschur, or AMS fix your problems if you follow their break-in method?
Read a little on this forum about how Mitsu backs up their warranty.
Good point.

And to answer your last Wise *** Comment Yes they will Ask Buschur how many people he has helped out in some way even though they have blown motors.
