300 Ft lbs at the wheels - 317 HP - - new dyno update 3" exhuast

Today was able to test the RMR 3" exhuast on the dyno along with the Greddy Emanage I put in this week

GREAT results

Amzingly - the RMR exhuast 3" downpipe and cat back along with Pruven Performance test pipe - made EXACTLY the same HP as no exhaust at all - 317 ! I found it amazing that they could design such a quiet exhuast (almost as quiet as stock) which made exactly the same power as the car does with no exhuast at all !

More good news - - the Greddy Emanage works flawlessly on the car - it really is a BIG improvment over a SAFC -- using the optional ignition harness and tuning softwear I was able to dial in MEGA low end spool up - we added 3 - 4 degrees on timing down low and the evo responded big time - a gain of almost 20 ft lbs of trq from 3400 all the way to 5400 rpms !!!! Sadly we were not able to pick up much power on top - it seems the stock turbo is maxed out - BUT the low end grunt just adds a new demension to the evo

Now the trq curve is very flat and much smooth - it stays up above 295 ft lbs all the way from 3500 to 5100 rpms !!

The HP is linear and gradually rising now - all the way to red line (no more falling off)! It rises above 300 HP at 5300 rpms and then goes up steadily all the way to red line

I will be posting this dyno sheet up later tonight so you all can see it

I am very impressed with the Emanage - for the price is a VERY good value - sure its not state of the art and will not compare to a motec - BUT it only cost me $500.00 for the whole set up - i figured out how to tune it in about one hour and it works really very well on the EVO

The 4 big power gainers I have on the car now

#1 - Pruven bigger Intercooler kit - (really ads a lot of low end grunt)
#2 - emanage
#3 - HKS EVC V
#4 - RMR Exhuast

Same as before - I run the same boost all the time - - 140 Kpa's peak at spool - which tapers down to about 132 kpa's as the revs rise !

Alfriedesq - have you gotten the new tail piece from RMR? I'm very interested in hearing what happens to the exhaust angle with the new part. The thought of a 3" cat back sounds good - but not if it's shooting out at some funky angle. Thanks!

Yes - I got it - and yes the angle is "different" at least now it don;t touch my bumper cover

Honestly - I do NOT love the look of the angled muffler - its prob a matter of personal preference - but I just dont care for that design - I would prefer a straight out look like the www.pruvenperformance.com axel back i had before http://www.pruvenperformance.com/images/alevo11.JPG

However - being a bit older and supposedly wiser these days - and realizing that the EVO has tons of road noise - tire noise and gear box noise already - it sure dont need a LOUD monster noise maker like my ole' BPM twister

Balancing out all the pros and cons - - the RMR system is SUPER quiet for a straight through 3" gradual bend system - it gives GREAT performance and it is made in a very execelnt manner - - woking against it is the unusual angled look of the muffler in the back and some early teething fit issues with the first few production pieces which they seem to have immediately drawn attention to and corrected

Frankly - for a LOT of people spending $1,000 on a turbo back exhaust system - they would want to hear that racey - hot performance "sound" thats screams "power" - - I used to be that way - - these days - the two biggest criteria in an exhuast are LOW noise - the lower the better - and high performance - in these two criteria the RMR excels like no other

Comming from a HKS carbon ti that i picked up 2nd hand after the first owner's wife made him sell it with an extrenaly gated t3/t4 on my WRX that made enough sound to wake the dead - - its real nice to have an exhuast that sounds like it was a stock BMW or benz system

The stock turbo is just way out of its "zone" at that high a boost and the car does not hold that kind of boost to red line

The taper off is due to the turbo loosing boost not anything I am setting

With the samco hoses - downpipe and air filter - the car holds boost a lot better than stock - and the boost is much more even - but it still falls over a bit

Al,

Great numbers! Is the RMR 3" exhaust a turbo back including downpipe? Also, the ECU might still be tinkering a little with boost. The only time I've seen boost trail off was do to a leak or instability with the boost controller vice a turbo dynamic at 20psi on the 16g. You head'in to the track this weekend with your monster?

I believe incognito has the fastest USDM EVO VIII in the world as of today; have fun!

I bought BOTH the 3' downpipe - and the 3" cat back seperately - I already had the pruven test pipe

The ECU can't be tinkering with boost - I have the HKS EVC V

My theories on why the boost tapers down a bit - #1 the turbo is too small - #2 the timing is being pulled b/c of detonation on top due to extreme heat being generated in the intake charge due to the turbo being driven beyond its efficiency range - #3 - cams - they have some low grunt cams in there which help it to spool so hard so early - I feel these are choking it on top - - #4 - possible restrictions on the exhuast header - o2 housing

What will your favorite upgrades be tomorrow? Can't keep up with all of your changes. I'll be very curious to see what you finally decide to keep installed when all is said and done.

Sucks getting old... but I can't stand loud exhausts anymore either... WOT is one thing, but I want something that will allow me to hear myself think while the pedal isn't on the floor! Now it looks like Ultimate and RMR are at the top of my list...

Al, are you gonna make the trek down to Atco tomorrow to try the car out? Supposed to be only 60 degrees, so expect good times if you go. I'm gonna go and see what kinda times I can pull with this 3" Ultimate Racing turbo back.
