If the Evo 8 is a JDM 280bhp Car then it is worth waiting. Or else I d go with the Evo VII.

It's actually the RSII model, but from what I can see, there isn't much of a difference between that and the GRS except for the first grear ratio is a bit lower on the RSII... I wish I had added a poll, but I think it's too late now.

Get the VII. I have an VIII comming, so the less VIIIs, the better.
Both are slick. I have a JDM 8 due here next month... if all goes well.

Hello my freinds , my name is Sherif , from Cairo- Egypt ... have been reading your forums for a while , been posting on the MLR since october , these forums are growing in a great way ... you all seem a bunch of freindly car enthusiasts

i have an evolution VII GSR , and i really love it .... here i would compare it to the eight in my point of veiw (no flames please )

evo7 (JDM)

5 speed box
nice wheels
nice rear lights
looks agressive
evo 8 (JDM)

6 speed box
so so wheels
**** looking rear lights
doesnt look as agressive as the 7

lots not forget the cars are pretty similar to begin with . but i would reccomend the seven

good luck
Sherif

Looks aside, the 8 GSR is the better car.

- Better torque
- Larger fuel tank
- Good six-speed gearbox that will make a stock 7 GSR feel slow. Really!
- Super AYC
- Speedo goes to 270 kmh now

The gearbox alone is worth it. If you can wait, do so. You won't regret it.

hello crufty,

torque ......the difference is minimal i believe ( less than 3 % difference) and the car is heavier .
Larger fuel tank ... for Gods sake its a rally car , not a camry
6 speed ....... i beleive is the only advantage the 8 has over the 7
super AYC ...... ??what do u mean ?( a very popular mod on the mlr is to install the ralliart AYC ecu which really makes the car much more fun )
Speedo goes to 270 kmh ....... so what ? u have the white guage ralliart package , it has a 300 km reading ..

i agree the six speed box is the only real advantage

cheers

Hi... I used to own a 7 GSR and I like my current Evo better. The reason is precisely because the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Taken individually, yes, you are right, it appears minimal. But add it all up, and it is a really different car.

The gearbox alone makes a huge difference. With the aggressive first gear and higher torque, it pulls better. With a higher top gear, you are getting better fuel economy and can drive longer with a bigger fuel tank instead of wasting time at a gas station.

For Super AYC, in my own experience I feel more confident about taking corners at a higher speed compared to my 7. According to the technical literature the new system is using planetary gears instead of bevel gears, new CPU etc which might explain the difference.

As for the Ralliart speedo, yes I have it too, but that is an aftermarket part, which is not really relevant to the discussion.... you get proper dials as standard. However I would like to add that the Ralliart fuel gauge still displays "48" as the maximum fuel level when it should be 55 on the E8 GSR.

Thanks.... not that the 7 is a bad car, but given the choice at the same price I'd take the 8 over the 7.

I guess we're lucky that we've managed to at least own an Evo in one form or other.

Cheers.
