Same orientation, similar internals. Interchangable? Not sure.

Pistons, conrods, crank can be used from the later models. Clutches from later models can also be used.

Manifolds are the same, i'm not sure if aftermarket ones for evo7,8,9's will fit nicely in the engine bay though.

Suspension is slightly different, front struts need spacers and sleeves as evo7,8,9's use a wider mounting flange and larger bolts, rears not sure.

Brakes all interchangable, you'll have problems getting wheels to fit over the brake AND fit under the guards though, this is what made me move to an evo6.

Gearboxes, evo7,8,9 will physically bolt up to the engine, probably not the to the car though.

So, you think I could fit evo 7,8,9 springs to the evo 6 ones?

So far on my IV I've used everything off of the 03 VIII, Valve cover gasket, plug wires, cams/gears, timingbelt, water pump, fluidamper, oil return line and gaskets, exedy clutch and flywheel, all the seals, and all of your sensors except the O2 we use a 2 wire O2, V's and up use 2 4 wire HO2's to my knowledge.

You will not be able to use the VIII X-fer the output shaft on the VIII's sit up higher than the IV-VI. Another thing you need to be aware of is the IV's were notorious for "crank walking" the stroke is a little shorter on the IV's than all of the others.

You could always just order the springs for it. I have Tanabe GF 210's for a VI I paid $170.00 shipped special order and had them in a week.

I have a ton of evo 4 parts. Pm me what you need. The control arms are all different then the evo 8 and 9. The front hubs are different on the evo 4. Also the transfer case is different, it goes under the subframe unlike the evo 7,8,9 which have it over the subframe. The axles are shorter then the 5,6,7,8,9 axles. The prop-shaft and rear diff mounts are different. Oh and the front and rear subframes are different( Different mounting points). There are a lot of little things different between the models.
