Laptop for logging

Im not a huge computer guru so I was looking for some help. I want to get a new laptop to log from my UTEC and to browse the internet/download songs. I don't need a gaming one or anything like that. Anyone have any suggestions as to what type/series?

I found a few for around 500 bucks just was hoping to hear some people that own these and see how they work. I had a friend get a 400 compaq and it seems to be pretty good for what she uses it for, but its screen is to big for my taste.

Well I have a Dell XPS M1210, XPS M1710, and a Sony AR. Pretty expensive, but they work good. If you're just going to be doing some logging and some non-graphic intensive applications, go for like a low end Dell Inspiron. The 1501 perhaps?

Toshiba or dell would be your only choices then. I'd go for a Dell, just because the battery lasts a bit longer. I get on average 3-3 1/2 hours on my M1210. That's good considering how fast it is. I doubt you'll get less than 5 hours with a less powerful Dell.

Yeah, but if you think about it, you're getting a much better deal since it's a much better processor. Most Dell's use them now anyway. They're only about 100-200 dollars more for maybe 3 or 4 times the performance. He stated that he only needs a low-end laptop, so maybe the AMD is good for him, although they run much much hotter.

Might as well add a turbo. Haha. Get some more air into the processor?

Yeah..... Let's leave those parts for cars.
