I have a skunk2 knob for a civic and I am pretty sure the thread pattern is different from the Evo.

That is one of the ugliest things I've seen in a long time. On top on that it looks like it is functional nightmare and would kill yoru hands.

Relax your hand then turn it over so your palm is towards the sky. Whats the natural shape.

It's a concave.

A ball sits in a concave naturally.

A stick does not.

Ugly is a qualitative opinion. I think it's ugly. Can't back it up, that's just how I feel.

I'm revising the proportions and form / contours. yes a hand is to an extend concave, however a "ball" is a little to convex to suit the natural shape of a hand. Also, to take your example further, now bring your fingers towards your wrist as if to grip a hangle bar; your fingers now make up a larger cylidrical contact path grader than the concave area; which becomes very important when downshifting into 4th and 2nd gear - unless you are a dragracer in which case this doesn apply to you.

I m trying to develop a knob that will adress two issues or mine:

1) The ones in the market do no suit my taste - they are either racey or shiny.
2) I am using this with short throw shifter so i need a knob that will help me with a bit of leverage.

The piece that you are seing now is 1" in diameter and 4" tall. I agree 1" is a bit to thin, so I m revising it to be 2" at it widest point (right now the top) and for it to be 3 3/4" tall. thread will go in 1.5" into this metal / alumn casing.

I will update over the weekend.

So you got a short shifter and then you get a tall knob to improve leverage.

You just canceled any reason for getting a short shifter.

Madness. But hey, each to their own.

i thought the reason for a short shifter wasnt to reduce the hight of the overall shift knob but to reduce the "throw" of the shifter. but what do i know

I have been a shift-knob junky for years. I've tried wood, metal, leather, plastic; small, large; spherical, cylindical, pistol grip ... and ...

The stock Evo IX leather "baseball" knob is as comfortable, functional and ergonomic as anything I've ever tried, and way better than most ... it's a keeper.

You may want to pick-up Bob Bondurant's book and learn a more effective shifting technique.

I have. My GTI has a 50% reduction and a metal, ball knob. It works well, but I don't see myself reducing the shift distance on my Evo - no need.
