Ported heads ..?
Ported heads ..?
a Good Garage in here, who always installed my parts and tuned .. recommended to do Ported Heads For a Decent Price .... and it'll increase performance due to more Flow ...
Is it Okay to Port the heads at this point of time ??? ...

You will only see a great deal of power come out of a ported head once you go with a bigger turbo 30R and up. Hp gains from a ported head would be from 20-75whp depending on setup and tune.
In your case you dont need it. You would only see a small hp gain due to the fact your still on stock turbo. Even if you where to get a 20g. This is something where you either go all out or nothing as far as the port goes. Once you get to the 450whp range then this is something to think about.

Yea why not and lose most of your daily driveablity. When it idles like crap at a light. Cold starts should be real fun. Even if you spned the extra time to fine tune it there will still be lil faws here and there.

Just because the head flows better? I would think this depends more on cam selection and how well tuned it is. Could be wrong.
Is the shop going to do a real port job were port volumes and flow capacities get measured to insure that all ports are the same or are they going to do a gasket match? There is a big difference between the two and a port port job can rob power.

they are going to measure them to insure all ports are the same ..
Ive seen a few people that have done this they mainly drag race they dyno gains where only a few hp at best. They all say the same thing its hard to get it to start when its cold out. From time to time the car want to die out a idle even with haveing the car tuned.

I cannot see how that is possible. I have on a ported head and i have absolutely no problem idling or starting when its cold
Like i said it all depends on setup. If you have a bigger turbo and its 20deg outside your car is not going to start right of the bat.
Oh yea now the people i know with ported heads on there car all have a EMS which as you know there cold starts are a pain in cold weather and thats why they all say the same thing unitll the car gets to operating temps the idle is all over the place. You can control it yes but you can only get it so close. Now i would have to say if you put it on a stock ecu you would get better reponse then you would a ems its a given i didnt see it from that point of view. I was thinking this guy was running ems which i guess is not the case.
But i think where getting a lil off topic.
so does porting the head only effect idle if you're running ems? It seems to me that if your ported head is causing the car to run like crap then the head was either ported too much or in the wrong places, or the tune wasnt quite good enough. Martinez, can you elaborate on how the porting effects evos differently?
