Quote: i dont know about rebuilding the tranny. i have a Exedy Hyper Single Organic disc, and a gruppe-s lightened flywheel. i have the exact same noise that you have, and only if i leave it in gear while not accelerating. i.e. engine braking. so, i would disagree w/ the transmission having problems. i never had this sound before the clutch and flywheel. i feel as though it has something to do with the people that installed it(TOPSPEED). i had another guy give it a once over, very qualified tuner and if he wants he can speak up, he advised to be wary because something about it didn't seem right. i still get the sound and sometimes a little clutch smell, and i am not talking about launching the car, when i reverse. it may be normal, but not everyone has it going on.
I have had this noise with TWO different clutches. The first was the Exedy Hyper Single, now the Exedy organic with a stock flywheel. I find it hard to believe that the clutch install was botched both times. What would cause this noise, shudder, to begin with?

I just want to really figure this out. I don't want bigger problems to arise from this later when I can take care of it now.

Thanks for the replies.

Quote: whoa, i just noticed you said when the clutch is out. do you mean in gear with the clutch engaged? if so i have the same problem. if your getting the problem with the car not being in gear i am not sure what it may be.
Car is in gear, under no acceleration.

i have no idea what is causing, sorry to say. it does seem almost like it is slowing the car down, maybe dragging something behind the car like a parachute . seriously though i will not know for sure until spring because i turned the boost down for the winter and won't be turning it back up until the spring. i will definitely know whether or not it has affected the performance because i will also be getting it tuned for the meth kit going on in the spring. i had it tuned back in may of last year by Shiv @ Dyno4mance, and the tuning will be done at the same place on the same dyno so the numbers should be the same. g/l man, and if you figure something out let me know.

It does slow the car down, I can feel it.

Are you still driving around with this issue on your car?

I gotta figure out what could be done wrong to casue this during a clutch install. I bought the car from a friend who had the clutch installed at a local shop, not AMS.

That same shopped caused me to sell my old Del Sol due to "over honing" my bottom end, and the over spray all over my exterior/interior. I have my doubts.

But if something was done "improperly", don't you think it would've been noticed during the next clutch install?

I just had an act clutch put in my 04 EVO. I am getting the same strange noise at deceleration. It started making that noise right after the install. I get some vibration in the clutch pedal but I just put 200 miles on the new clutch, not even broken in yet. I also had a 50/50 mix of BG synchro put in also. I have no idea why it's making all the noise. I'm wondering if it's because of the BG synchro.
