Rattling, Chattering, drivetrain noise w/ organic clutch. Why?

I need help figuring some thing out. I have an Evo 8 and had an Exedy Hyper Single clutch when I bought the car with 7,500 on the clock. I heard all kinds of noises from the drivetrain from day 1 and was assured by many it's simply clutch noise and to deal with it.

Seeing as that my car is not a track *****, I chose to get rid of the Hyper Single and go with an Exedy Organic, Stg2 IIRC. I thought this would be sufficient clutch for my needs and was hoping it would get rid of the drivetrain noise. It did not. The car drives great, no odd noises EXCEPT for ......

The noise: This usually happens in most gears, with my foot off the acclerator, clutch out, coasting. It is even more apparent at 45mph, in fourth gear with the said above.
It sounds like there is something rattling under my hood and I can feel it in the pedal as well. when the rattling ensues, I almost feel like it has some sort of "drag" or resistance on my car when it occurs.

Where is this dreaded noise and shudder like feel coming from? Drivetrain fluids have been changed more than they probablly should have been w/ the mileage I have, so no issues there. There is nothing rubbing, and nothing loose. I am at a loss here. TIA.

If needed I can try and get a vid or sound clip of it.

Bill

* I also posted this in Engine/turbo/Drivetrain....had no responses.

no exhaust right? If you do have an aftermarket exhaust, check to make sure your driveshaft properly clears the exhaust.

The noise has only been present since the clutch install? If that's the case take it back to the shop that installed it and have them look at it. You may also want to check w/ Exedy. If the manufacturer says that the noise is an inherent part of the product design than I wouldn't worry--if not--then have the shop that hooked it up look at it.

I do have a TBE, but have nevr noticed any marks on either. I'll have to double check that one.

The noise, shuddering, has been there with both clutches. That was the reason I went to the organic, thinking it was chatter from the clutch. It is not in install issue. Just trying to pinpoint the noise.

I'll go and try and get it on vid.

Listen to when I left off the gas. That is not exhaust noise you hear.

I watched your video and I had exactly the same thing in my evo. Anytime i would let of the gas with the clutch out and was deceling i would get that sound. It did not seem to be effecting anything so i left it alone. Well later I went to get the gear synchro TSB done on my EVO and the tech called me and said I had a broken speed gear. After he rebuilt my tranny and i got my car back I have never heard the sound again.

I got my done under warranty, he said that the gear was highly worn. I dont know much about transmissions. But you should look into it.

i dont know about rebuilding the tranny. i have a Exedy Hyper Single Organic disc, and a gruppe-s lightened flywheel. i have the exact same noise that you have, and only if i leave it in gear while not accelerating. i.e. engine braking. so, i would disagree w/ the transmission having problems. i never had this sound before the clutch and flywheel. i feel as though it has something to do with the people that installed it(TOPSPEED). i had another guy give it a once over, very qualified tuner and if he wants he can speak up, he advised to be wary because something about it didn't seem right. i still get the sound and sometimes a little clutch smell, and i am not talking about launching the car, when i reverse. it may be normal, but not everyone has it going on.

whoa, i just noticed you said when the clutch is out. do you mean in gear with the clutch engaged? if so i have the same problem. if your getting the problem with the car not being in gear i am not sure what it may be.
