Rattling, Chattering, drivetrain noise w/ organic clutch. Why?
damn, i really doubt these asses around here will rebuild my tranny w/ an aftermarket clutch. even though i don't abuse the car. mitsubishi really has no loyalty to their owners. i should have already know this seeing how this is my second one.
I just had an act clutch put in my 04 EVO. I am getting the same strange noise at deceleration. It started making that noise right after the install. I get some vibration in the clutch pedal but I just put 200 miles on the new clutch, not even broken in yet. I also had a 50/50 mix of BG synchro put in also. I have no idea why it's making all the noise. I'm wondering if it's because of the BG synchro.
I don't know about you guys but it gets real annoying after awhile, more than the SSQ.
I gotta figure out what could be done wrong to casue this during a clutch install. I bought the car from a friend who had the clutch installed at a local shop, not AMS.
That same shopped caused me to sell my old Del Sol due to "over honing" my bottom end, and the over spray all over my exterior/interior. I have my doubts.
But if something was done "improperly", don't you think it would've been noticed during the next clutch install?

I didnt think it was the BG but the only thing I could think of was that the old clutch was slipping bad enough that when you put in the new one, only then you could hear the noises. But if guys are having the same issue on an EVO with only 7k miles on it, I'm stumped. I should just take it to the dealer and let them finger it out.
I'm not a tranny guru but I might have an answer. To anyone with this problem did you change your throw out bearing with the clutch install? I installed an ACT clutch on my 03 VIII and started getting the same chattering noise. Brought it to a trusted mechanic he said mitsu factory throw-outs are notoriously crap and that they should be changed whenever clutch work is done. He has the same problem with his own personnal truck with a mitsubishi tranny. Told me that he wouldn't recommend changing it unless I'm replacing the clutch because it won't do any damage and labor cost would be sky high for a $40 part. It's just going to bother the **** out of you.
that throw out bearing could be the culprit. i had topspeed install mine back in Oct and have had problems w/ it since then. had it checked by another well qualified guy and he questioned wheather or not the bearing was the new one or one or the old one, because it already looked very dirty to be new would be very odd. either way i avoid TOPSPEED at all costs.
i wonder if they remembered to grease the parts that need greased(TOB fork, input shaft splines, etc.). i wonder if not greasing the input splines magnifies the noise from the aftermarket clutch.

Wow, and I thought I was the only one with this problem. I just had an Exedy single plate installed a few weeks ago at the dealership along with a brand new (stock) flywheel. I'm having the same problem with rattling but I can't really tell any kind of drag while I'm coasting. I consulted the services manager (cool cat) about it and had a mechanic ride around in the car with me but they basically said it was of no concern. I even had my T-case and tranny fluids changed as part of the installation. As far as I can tell there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the car, its just weird.
