Allstate is freaking ridiculous, they were gonna charge over $400 a month for my Lancer OZ. So I am listed as the main driver on my moms van instead of my car, and I pay $150. I'm 18 also.

Try www.gmac123.com - they beat all other insurers for me, including Progressive, esurance, etc. I've been with them for about a year now, and I just got the Evo - I have an Evo IX MR SE, Porsche and Kia on the policy, with two drivers, in California, and spend just over $200/month (and I got a speeding ticket last year). Everyone else wanted double that.

Why can't you stay on your moms policy? Having multiple cars also helps. Stating less than 5000/miles, and "pleasure only" (i.e. no commuting) also reduces the premium (not advocating that you lie, so only do that if it's really true!). Getting a Lojack can knock up to 20% off the premium too. Are you still at college? Some insurers provide a discount for good grades.

Shop around - you can always find it cheaper!

Thanks!

OH man I would never pay over $100/month to insure an Evo. Anymore than that and it seems like a waste of money.

why dont you put it under your moms name
that what i do
i have my 91 integra under my name and i pay liability for it for $1200 a year and my evo is under my mom and its $1800 a year for full coverage with 1000 deductable. and i'm the only one that drives the evo. if i was to put the evo under my name it would be $3500 a year for full coverage. i'm 22 with preatty much a perfect record

Definitely shop around before really considering getting rid of the Evo.

And I don't know why everyone hates on Allstate?! Had them for years, on both my Evo and Eclipse...and my homeowners insurance. My rate just went even lower this year to less than $100/month! Guess it all depends on your record, age, environment, etc etc...

Is'nt any one going to say tha he is too young to be driving an Evo in the first place? Or is every one afraid of the backlash?

I am a automobile claims adjuster, and I have been an underwriter in my time also. I can tell you that you are going to pay a large amount because you are young. There are alot of other factors that come into play, like your area, the car, the model of your car, what the insurance has paid out in your state, on your type of car with accidents, I could go on and on...

When I was 21 I had a gst eclipse and was paying $300+ in lia. through one company and $350+ through another for comp and coll. Plus my $399 a month for my car. Needless to say I could have gotten rid of it but instead I got another job. Now of course most of the amount was due to my 2 reckless driving, 1 illegal lane change, driving on a suspended license, and another ticket that had driving to close, speeding, running a red light, no seatbelt all on the same ticket (**cking LA).

The point I am trying to make is just because you find a cheap insurance, does not mean that you will have a good experience when you have a claim. And why do you pay insurance? To protect yourself from all of the idiots with crappy cars out there. Good luck with your decision, think it through!

And yes no offense. 18 is too young to have one of these cars. Unless you have alot of experience of driving, well lets say my kids are not going to have a vehicle like this unless he/she is very, very mature.

I agree with this... Just wanted to add though, even though my insurance with GMAC is cheaper than all the others, I've had a pretty good experience with claims too. I've only had one claim (windshield due to a stone chip), and I ended up paying only $50 ($100 deductable with a $50 discount) and the work was done immediately, they came to me, and the insurance never bothered me at all. They replaced the winshield with an OEM one from Porsche (cost them over $700), so they used good parts too. Then my insurance still went down at my next 6-month renewal!

The entire thing does depend on circumstance, tickets, area, vehicle type, age, credit score, etc.

Thanks!

Typically (and I really only do claims in CA), most insurance companies will not raise your insurance if you have a comp. claim. Cannot say for all. Progressive is one of those carriers. Although if you have more than like 3 then it might change the market system that they rate you on. Not all companies are like this, but most are going toward this approach that since it is not your fault you should not be penalized.

Also alot of insurance companies marketing department have not caught onto what we have AWD/Turbo. They look more at the standpoint that it is a 4 door vehicle. Therefore they think that it is not a sports car
