Differences between MIVEC and non-MIVEC Evos'...
either way you'll be happy, i own an VIII and sold IX's if you have the money IX if not you'll be happy with the VIII as well, i think that mivec only add's about 30 hp on the IX when tuned then the VIII.... my opinion though, looking from ams's staged kits
Stage one Evo VIII goes from 271 stock to 330 (59 hp difference) .... EVO IX stage one goes 286 to 345-365 (79 hp difference) but really its up to what you wanna do with the car as well, drag, autox... ect.... will make a difference as well horsepower's are just numbers.... its all about how you drive, and what you like

I have an 8 with ACD but I'd rather have a 9 for sure. I think they look better IMO.
8s are cheaper in price obviously so with the price difference between the 8 and 9 you could have a faster 8.

Too me evo 8 vs evo 9 on bolt on there isnt much difference. I have ran my friends evo9 mr vs my 05 evo 8 and we were even. We both have stage 4 bolt ons. People say they have smoother powerband but if u look around this forum for evo 9 dyno they seem choppy to me. For the people that say every evolution is better u guys should check that fifth gear video that a evo 6 ran faster track times than evo 9. Im not an evo 9 hater or anything like that im just a person that likes simple motors=}. The simpler the motor the easier to make power. I guess the people thatswear over that mivec are old honda owner=}.

do you like a driver's car or do you like to have the security of electronic controlled everything?
the ix does have the mivec, but i dont hear too may people ranting and raving about it.
the viii is cheaper because its a bit older and used...after a certain point in modifications it wont really matter which version you get anyway. but personally i dont think youll go wrong either way.
