cops have portable smog checks?

My boss told me today that he saw a few cops positioned during the day, randomly pulling older cars or modified cars off of the road and they were putting them on a ramp with spinning wheels(like a smog check station) I was just wondering if all of this is something new and upcoming or what? Blah I've been stressing lately I need to throw a hfc on instead of the testpipe but its like so much more restrictive :[ but sometimes I wonder if 10-15whp is worth chancing a 1500 dollar fine lol.

Yes but its not the cops that have them its DOT.

The cops will take a "random" selection from the area and do smog checks. I can't remember how they can even legalize this but i ran across the prototypes while i was intern'ing in government positions like Caltrans and a couple EDU internships.

The mobile station i ran into somehow was fitted into a bus so they could slide it out and test... hate testing...

I've seen them set that up around San Diego a couple of time. Last time I saw one in Rancho Bernardo last year, they had cones and officers directing you for the smog check. A High flowing Cat is as far as I would go, never a Test pipe here in Cal.

Here in VA I have heard that VDOT has vans with some type of sniffing device that can check your emissions as you drive by. Just a rumor that I heard..........

yes, thats good ole california. Its actually BAR (bureau of automotive repair) thats sets these mobile smog check points.

getting busted for no cat is a big fine. and actually a HFC is technically illegal too. just hope you get a HFC that looks stock.

You get 10-15whp from your test pipe over a HFC? I want your test pipe

they have vans in Colorado that have sniffers that check your emissions. if you drive by them 2-5 times and pass each time then you don't have to do your emissions testing but the vans are more strict on whats a pass and whats not.

Are they putting the cars on rollers? Cuz if so are they 4 wheel rollers? I honestly don't mind having a cat.
