What makes an Evo sound like this???

I'm sure most of you have seen this vid: http://videos.streetfire.net/video/1...3600391007.htm

I believe it's the latest WRC test car for Mistubishi.

I don't know enough about the rules of rally or about how rally engines are built to understand why the hell it sounds like this...

Can anyone shed some light on the behavior of this engine? The engine itself, the exhaust, the chirping bov (?) What's going on?!?!?! :-D

Antilag, turbo choice, intake restrictor, cam choice all things that play a role in how the engine sounds.

I found a post on EvoM that basically says:
"Bang-Bang" anti lag works by retarding the timing and dumping extra fuel at high TPS, and low boost pressure points of the map.

The retard of timing creates allot of extra EGT heat.
Send a ton of un-burnt fuel threw the engine with those high EGT's & you get an explosion in the exhaust manifold. The pressure from the explosion spools the turbo and wham 500ft/lbs at 3100rpm.

Just about any standalone ECU worth it's salt has an anti lag option.

"bang bang" Antilag is VERY HARD on turbine wheels. Plan on exploding a few a season.

not to go off topic but i swear they use a lancer body with 4g63 and awd components and then they modify the body, the lines headlights and tailights look so 02-03 lancerish.

They call it the "Bang, Bang", or anti-lag... If you drive your car on the street all the time, you don't want it. It's not uncommon to to snap impeller shafts, not to mention it dramatically reduces turbocharger life.

oops, I see this has already been covered ^^^^^^^^
