Using that logic may'be you should ban thread with following subjects:
Modifying your cars exhaust, intake etc. = it violates federal emission laws
Driving your car to work = people get killed in accidents driving to work every day
Driving/Racing on a racetrack = numerous people are killed racing every year

very touching story and very true. things can go wrong so fast and there is alot of ways to still have fun with your car without doing it on public roads. i had a similar accident with my dad and i in the car. but neither of us sustained injuries that bad or even close. i will try to put up some pictures later and maybe tell my story too. i just want to say that it definitely opened my eyes when it happened to me too.

that was really a moving story.. it seriously has changed my view on some of the dumb things i have done in the past that i am very lucky not to have been injured. this story plus the accident that just recently happened in my town has really hit home. (three high school kids from the town over from me died leaving from school street racing in a CTS). i totally agree that this could happen to anyone, just dont let it be you by not partaking in reckless road activities.. drive safe..
Thanks for sharing this. I drive the EVO, but my son has a WRX and my daughter and her boyfriend both have RSX's. I will be forwarding this for them to read. Hopefully it wil hav as great of an impact on them and make them think. I firmly believe that the courage and time you took to write this will definetly save lives and prevent injuries to someone that reads this.
Thansk you very much

I think the victim of the accident is working on making an account here. Last I heard, he was in the "waiting for mod acceptance" stage so that he could post. So I'm sure we can be expecting a reply from him sometime soon.
If not, and anyone wants to get in contact with him... his email is listed at the bottom of his story.

I'm glad I didnt get a suby http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...6#post16896556
People really needs to these kind of things. To add more to that, high school admins should have a program that shows these kind of things to high school kids. Kids (even adults) don't realize how a few seconds of driving careless can affect their life dramatically.
Another thought.
I know drag stips are easily accesable, but I think road racing should should be more accessable to people without all the hassle of getting a licence or membership, etc.

Just goes to show how important high-performance driver training is. Especially if you're a young kid driving a powerful car. From his description of the accident, this was 100% avoidable on many levels.
To the guy who says this wouldn't have happened if Ryan were driving an Evo...you are delusional. If you read the account, he hit standing water at high speed in a curve. Rather than riding it out, he slammed the brakes (the absolute worst thing you can do in that situation). There's NO car in the world that would not have spun at that point. If anything, a front-heavy FWD car is LESS likely to spin in that situation.
If you're counting on your car's AWD to save you, then you're as good as dead. Car control has everything to do with the driver...and very little to do with the car.
