Evo IX tranny problems
I have my EVO IX sitting in my garage and another EVO IX sitting outside.
They were purchased 2 weeks apart. The garaged EVO shift much worse than the one outside. 6500 miles on it vs 4500 on the one outside.
My car has a noticeably differnt gear engagement.
Oh well. Warranty?

Well after the dealer replaced a leaky trandfer case at 2000 miles and a fitting bloewing acd fluid everywhere, i have some questions about thistrans now.it likes to jump out of 1st, and is hard going ointo second at times. its been reported and hopfully it goies away.

I think most of these silky boys in here don't know what a raw performance transmission is supposed to feel like. It is naturally going to be less forgiving than your moms Tercel or any high end yuppie-mobile. I only have 2000 miles, so I guess I will see for myself soon enough.
just remember that Mitsu was not thinking about smooth and quiet when they made this car.

4k miles on mine no probs so far. My friends IX had a bad second gear grind on high rpm shifts so he installed a front motor mount, ss clutch line, and short shifter w/ all the bushings and now its fine.
Does anyone's IX first gear whine pretty loud like an evo 8? I wonder what that is. Tranny doesn't grind though, it didn't do it when the car was new. Kind of developed around 6k miles. My buddies IX doesn't do it.
My IX MR with about 10k on the Odo, Its still a bit notchy when cold, but fine after that. Now i voted yes because on only 2 occasions i was locked out of 4th during some high RPM shifts at the drag strip. RPM's dropped and i was able engage it but killed my 1/4 mile times..and lost to a 13 sec mustang
but that lock-out happened like around 6k on the Odometer..since then its been fine. New bushings and SS clutch line /w adjustment will be going in when i get back from Iraq.

when i first got it was really notchy from 2nd to 3rd. i changed out all the linkage and shift tower bushings to hard anodized ones and added a short shifte,r lubricated that ball joint really well no probs what so ever.
