Tips for not spinning out of the whole?

Last season I got some pretty good times and towards the end, I ended up with the time in my signature. That was with a 1.75 60'. My only concern is that I can't get out of the whole without spinning through 1st gear. Can anyone offer any other suggestions (Tires, burnout box, etc..) that may help.

I know I could get some better times if I could better my 60'.. Then again, it may come down to my tires which are currently Yokahoma AVID H4s All season.

Just for reference - LC set at 6000, boost builds to about 14psi. Hard to describe how I launch but I don't drop the clutch, I feather it and then let off slow then fast.

Thanks for the feedback..
Mike

You sound like you know more than me anyway, so I'll probably be preaching to the quire on this one, but I'd ditch the 'all-seasons' for dry running Nitto's or Falkens. Yokahama dries are pretty good too and some Toyo's can do it as well. I'm not sure how much that will help, but the all-seasons probably are not helping at all

Most posted tip I've read from fast drivers is lower the psi of the tires. Flatter'ish tires stick better.

Your probably right. I may need to get some better "good gripping" tires.

I don't know a lot about tires but which ones would you and anyone else recommend that would be good at the track and in the rain? The reason is that I don't want to buy another set of rims to mount them on.. If I go to a different set of tires, I'm going to use them throughout the year and then just switch them back to the Yokahoma's in the winter..

Thanks for your feedback!

That's a good tip. To be honest, I've never let any air out of the tires at the track. I guess I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to drag racing. I've only being doing it for 1 season and I'm still learning. The car is capable of better times so with more and more practice I should be there.

Do you think lowering the psi will hurt mph?

MPH over the 1/4 mile ???

Only lower them at the track, them inflate them for daily driving.

Sorry wasn't specific.. Yep, just the 1/4 mile. That's my only concern, I'm sure I could inflate them back once I leave.

every time at the track you need to adjust pressure, rpm and possibly how you slip the clutch...

Sorry I totally read that are mpg, which was what I was ing about.

You're MPH n the 1/4 is well below max, so I don't think that will be an issue.

Yeh... My spelling is kind of off today. Thanks for the feedback.

Sounds like better tires an air pressure are the key.. Well, I guess I'm going to have to do some shopping.. Thank gosh for tax returns!

Track opens in 2 weeks!

snow tires, real low pressure, raise your 2 step to 6500. You seem like a better driver then me but I can launch 1.6x all day long.

I just cant bring myself to burn out in the box either

Snow tires??????? Why would they help? I thought they would grip less.

I wouldn't say I'm a better driver then you! If your pulling 1.6's all day, and I've managed 1 in an entire year, that's pretty impressive!

I'll start by getting a better set of tires and lowering the pressure some. What would you suggest? Or maybe I lower the pressure a little bit at a time until the wheels spin is less???
