wrong transfer case oil

About one year ago i had a mechanic install an act clutch and flywheel. About a month later my 05 evo started making a noise which gradually got louder. 2 weeks ago i finally decided to send the transfer case to shepherd to get a rebuild. I always thought that i messed up the t case by lunching the car. well it turns out that the ring and pinion got destroyed because of the wrong oil the mechanic put in it. so now i cant even get a rebuild and i am going to have to get a new one. some friends tell me to charge the mechanic the full transfer case which is $2,550. but some say that i should help him pay it. What do guys suggest me to do?

Your problem is that it happened a year ago..So i doubt he will say okay no problem.. If the incident happened a week ago, then you might have a chance..Anyway good luck with everything...

I wouldn't bother even approaching the mechanic. He'll think you are off your rocker.
