How hard do you drive your EVO?

I was just wondering how hard the EVO drivers actually drive their cars. I have never taken mine to redline but i do floor it through the gears at the most 3 times a week.

I drove one of your Evo's to the redline in every gear when I took a test drive in a black one at Colonial in Danbury, CT. Who bought that one anyway? Sorry dude!

Your joking right . It's not a big deal and drive as hard as you want. If it's going to break by taking it to redline "after warming up of course" you wouldn't want that kind of junk anyways.

On average I stay within the speed limits. I have seen 125 one time, red line about 3-4 times.

All i have to say is that it's an evo! Ferrari will actually not sell you theirs if you don't intend to run it hard! I can't believe what i'm hearing from fellow evo owners. I hope your babying your cars b/c your under 1k miles?

For the people who redline about couple of time take you car to the 1/4 track and i'd bet you'll see high 13's low 14 vs. low 13's mid 13's on a properly ran and maintanced evo.

I fully agree, after break-in I will be running mine to 5-7K with most shifts. Not sure why you would want to own an Evo and not hear that turbo spooling up to 19psi!

This car was made for one thing: driving.

hehe...I feel bad for the guy who ends up with that silver one at Schaeller Mitsubishi in CT. I took that car for a thorough 15 mile test drive!

On the other note...I usually redline mine about 3X a day.
Otherwise..I usually drive it pretty timid. Too many idiots on the road these days and I finally have a clean driving record. So...I'd like to keep it that way.

I have had my evo for just over a week now and it has about 750 miles on it. I have driven it pretty normally through the break-in with a few short bursts to red-line. I honestly think that mitsu does some sort of break-in on these engines at the factory. I know that they do that with the RSX and there are A LOT of RSX's. Besides who breaks in a new engine on synthetic oil? Of course comparing the quality of honda with that of mitsu is redundant to my arguement, but I still beleive that these cars are ment to be driven hard and after I spent about 5-6 hundred miles getting to know the car, I drive it pretty agressively everyday on the backroads. Most of my concern is for the tranny actually. I try not to shift to hard, that is fast enough to stay in the powerband but not feel the gears hitting each other and the rear diff working, and I only excuted a perfect 5k drop once and that was yesterday. I honestly think that I am driving the car the way it was intended to be driven and if anyone thinks I am doing something wrong don't hesitate to comment.

Not that you're doing "wrong", it's your car after all, but I plan to baby mine until the break-in period is over. Then I plan to be RELENTLESS in my beating on the little guy!

What is break-in? 1000 miles?

I take mine to redline a lot more now since I removed the cat and added my HKS downpipe. Sure I would do it before at least once per day or so, but it's just so much more addictive now! She just pulls like a fricken bat out of hell and begs for redline Geez I wonder what I'll do after I add my cat-back and boost controller in 2 weeks. BUT ... I still drive "normal" in traffic and I maintain her probably more than I should ... changing oil every 2800 or so miles. I have 4300 mi now and running better than ever!
