Need a bit of advice!

I have a 2003 Evo 8 with about 55k miles on it. I have a bit of a dilema, i am not sure if I should try to sell it soon or not. I am worried that the car is going to break down. It is a daily driver for me and I live in colorado, so the snow and all of the crazy chemicals prob dont help anything. There is a host of mods on it, and I am thinking about getting some more, maybe some cams and what not. I really love the car, I dont want to get rid of it, but I also dont want a car that is just a rolling chassis with a blown engine, I am not very hard on the car but these cars are not meant for high mileage. What should I do??? Should I just keep it and work on it? or should I sell it and get something with less miles? Should i try to replace some of the parts and then work on it? Help me out a bit. thanks

It's not like it's going to fall apart once you get above 60k miles. It will last well over 100k miles if you treat it well.

I treat it very well. I change the oil every 3k miles and I drive it very nicely. I do sometimes get on it hard, I am just worried that putting cams and more aftermarket stuff will blow it the hell up. I havent owned a 4g before, I know they are stout, but I just wanted to make sure that its not gonna blow up, as long as I dont do anything stupid that is.

Cams and such are not going to do damage to the motor if it is tuned properly. You will however run a bigger risk hurting your transfercase and transmisson with the added power. Keep it and just upgrade the driveline along with the additional bolt-on's.

I'm concerned about durability, too, and that's why my car's drivetrain is stock. If you're worried, skip the cams, etc. Seems pretty simple.

I really want new cams. I was thinking 272 or the 264. thats about all i would do to the engine. would that take it over the edge of reliability, i would think it would Which would give better results, which would be better in the long run, i am prob gonna keep it for about 3 more years.

cams wont do anything. Make sure you get a conservative tune. And if you dont be the **** outta the car it will be fine.

Theres a guy on dcevoclub.com that has all the bolt ons, cams, exhaust, etc.. that has well over 150k on his 03 VIII. Forget his SN, but he takes care of his car does the routine mauntence and everything is fine.

Dont believe it when people say this is not a high mileage motor, because its really no different than any other quality engine from japan. They reason you hear about people blowing up and these other horror stories is because some are under the assumption that the engine is indestructable because of the evos reputation. Just like any other car, if you mistreat it things will break and if you take proper care it will last for a long time.

I took a quick look at your past threads. Did you have all the problems with your car taken care of?

^^^^Guys keep your cars, you've done a lot to it. I was thinking the same and after thinking how much I've spent already and how much I cared and loved the car - no trades, car with me til it's dead
