Exhaust Tickets Possible Solution
Hey guys,
I was reading a car magazine (will leave it unnamed, I don't want this to go off topic here saying which mag sucks and so on)
Saw an article about those exhaust tickets I keep seeing here on EvoM. I'm talking about the "not fair" ones. Well, basicly There is a network that tries to set a reasonable exhaust sound level because some states are trying to outlaw modified exhausts at all. They established a bill in Cali, Washington and couple more states, but some are still outlawing that.
I'm in Ohio, so it's not that bad here, never had a ticket like that, but I know some of you have big problems cause of that. What they are asking is for you to sign up for a free membership, basicly to get people count for their bill. This is basicly a good way to participate in making it fair out there on the street.
Just thought I might help you guys out with sharing that info...

i dont understand why all the attention is directed towards car exhausts..
i mean those choppers & harleys all have ridiculously loud exhausts, but
they dont ever really get harassed for em.. well.. not that i've EVER seen..

Well, from what I understand "no modified exhaust law" will apply to them too
i see hawaii is trying to pass one that is still based on "noise" alone. quote from law "a exhaust that has been modified to make more noise or sound than the vehicle made when manufactured” has been introduced in Hawaii

Well they are trying to get rid of "unusual" sounds on the road. Which is stupid, get rid of the harley sounds or straight exhaust on those pick ups. They think if it's aftermarket - it's loud. ANd they let cops decided it if it's loud or not without the damn sound measuring

if that became widespread... well I'm assuming car manufactures would just make their exhausts louder... or an option at least.

In Washington, the new law is you CAN get an aftermarket exhaust, but it cannot be louder than stock. Luckily for us Evo guys the stock exhaust is pretty loud to begin with so we have a couple of options when it comes to aftermarket exhausts. The Greddy Evo 2 and Tanabe Touring Medallion comes to mind as those are right near the 92db level of the stock Evo exhaust.
The same law applies to bikes as well but enforcement doesn't seem as likely with the choppers as they are with imports.
