Its very hard to protect against Laser - you have to be close enough to another car who is ahead of you. The car ahead has to get shot, and you have to be close enough to pick up the very narrow reflection.

My V1 has saved me from Laser twice, in the past two months or so. Both times I was driving pretty close behind a car in front, getting ready to pull out and pass them. The car in front got tagged, the V1 picked it up, and I was able to slow down 10-15 mph to avoid a ticket.

Speed does not cause accidents.
Poor judgement causes accidents.
That is why we have speed limits.
It sucks but lets face it there are a lot of idiot street racers out there.
Cops are not paid to judge who is safe. They are paid to enforce laws.
If everyone had good judgement we would have higher speedlimits, but we have a lot of retards on the road.

My 2 cents

The Passport SRX and ZR3 are both systems that jam laser... Reputedly they work very well, they jam the radar and give you a warning so you'll slow down, then they stop jamming so you are not "invisible" to the cops.

I got the Passport 8500 and i really like it. It did go off when my wife was driving on I-75 north bound from FL just a the cop shot our car... Fortunately I had seem ihim hiding and she hit the brakes upon my warning. When the alarm went off she was only doing about 70..... The Passport 8500 seems to work very well and i'm happy with it. I try to be very careful and not speed anyway, but you never know.... I cannot afford to get another ticket, my yearly insurance is enough to buy a damned good extra car and I'm afraid if I get more points they'll prolly take my licence.. Oh well, I guess I'll just try to be very careful. So far the Silver EVO seems to be less attention getting for the cops than my yellow WRX was... I think they really sought me out for tickets in that car Make no mistake, they'll ignore other cars going faster and ticket sports cars going slow!! I personally saw that happen to a beautiful red Porsche 356C. When I saw it go by (at apparently the speed limit), lots of cars were passing it, within a mile or so, there it was, stopped by the cops and prolly getting a ticket

I will admit that probably the Valentine V1 is the best thing for avoiding tickets. The damned things go off so much with false alarms that you probably stay scared ****less all the time and never even go the speed limit No kidding, I tried one of those and sent it back. It's waay too "chatty" you either stay stressed out on the edge of your nerves all the time, or just ignore the damned thing and end up getting tickets anyway. I think there are more than a dozen better detectors for less money than the Valentine V1 out there. Just rear the www.radartest.com reviews......

silverEVO8- You must have gotten an overly sensitive unit? I really don't have much chatter or falsing with my V1, although any unit will pick up alarm systems from time to time. I have always left my V1 set for the highway mode and never used the city filters(I think there are two levels of filtering?). I wonder if other V1 owners are having these issues?

Its funny how much impact a detector will have on your driving style at first. Any radar detector will make you more edgy at first as you realize just how many real bogeys are out there. At first its a little hard to get used to, but at the end of the day it keeps you aware of the fact that you just can't drive like a maniac all of the time. Its a game of odds really.

I don't think so, this was prolly 4 years ago. I ordered one direct after trying a friend's V1. He raved about it and perhaps at that time the V1 was the state of the art. Anyway, both units were equally chatty with falsing.....
Of course, things might not be as bad depending where you live. Some areas of the country are probably much less populated with falsing sources than the Atlanta area. Around here the V1's I tried drove me nuts and unfortunately some other POS radar detector I had did not even make a chirp when a GHP trooper tagged me with the radar and gave me a ticket

Oh I agree, the radar detector definitely will make you more cautious. That is good, that's part of it's purpose. I used to feel self conscious with it and feared the cops will single me out, but now i don't care, after all they are legal and I rather be a little safer....... It's very useful if you pay attention to it. You will learn were the false alarms are and when you see more that one alarm where you don't expect it, or one where usually there isn't... watch out! The Passport 8500 can be programmed to show as many a 5 (I think) simultaneous alarms and the relative strenght of each! It is also extremely resistant to falsing but sensitive to the real threats. I can so far recomend it totally.

I just got a ticket, in mail!! it says I did 75+ in a 35 zone, but I don't even remember driving that fast that entire day or at that location at the accused time! on the ticket it was stated clocked and estimated. Anyway, the fine is $375 and I'm gonna fight it. Ay suggestions?
