Evo VIII vs Evo IX with dyno graphs!

EDIT: EVO VIII GRAPHS ON PAGE 3
EDIT: EVO IX GRAPHS ON PAGE 9
Alright everyone. i have an evo VIII and my friend has an evo IX. we are doing a study to see the actual difference the benifits of mivec make. we both have similar mods and are getting tuned by the same tuner in the same week so the results should be pretty similar.

Car 1 (2005 evo VIII) ams tbe, ams licp, ams fmic, buschur uicp with dv, buschur intake and filter, walbro 255, and a forge mbc.

Car 2 (evo IX mr) turboxs tbe, injen intake with licp and uicp, turboxs fmic, forge mbc, walbro 255

as you can see the cars have the same mods but from different vendors ( i personally think my mod list is stronger) i will get my dyno results tomorrow on pump gas and on 108 and he will be getting his numbers next week and i will have both of those graphs up asap. i think this will be a good study to show the true differences between the evo ix and the evo VIII on the basic bolt ons.

also this will be done on a dyno dynamics dyno with tuning done on ecuflash at 4000 feet altitude.

this will definately interest me as i am currently trying to decide between the IX and the VIII.

what are your initial thoughts between the two of you about what the results will show? maybe even more important, how do both cars "feel" at present?

the evo 9 will make a good amount of more power. the diff in products are way to minimal.
uicp will not even add hp, so that comparison will be basically even
tbe- the difference between the two is maybe if you are lucky 5 hp for the ams
intake- no real difference with hp
fmic-i think this is where the ams will dominate
but overall the mivec will react to the mods much better!!!

just my opinion. but definitely cool that you are doing this test for the community especially for the noobies and people that are looking to buy a used evo.

thanks

I thought that there was more differences between the VIII and IX than just mivec. I thought the the IX had more agressive cams and a bigger turbo and it runs at a higher boost....

My IX did 236AWHP with just an intake. I will be trying to dyno it tomorrow if I can get a time slot... which I have added the following:

TBE, Turbo Mandifold, and Tuned for 19.6 - 20.3PSI ^_^

I'll let you know how that goes.

With all due respect the differences between the IX and VIII have been known for a while. Your comparison test while interesting, still will be nothing that is really new. With TBE, Filter, Fuel Pump, MBC, and Flash I put down 310whp and was a little disappointed at the time, if I had a 05 VIII and had the same mods, I would have been very happy with 310whp.

So my predictions is that he will probably be able to run higher boost than you on pump gas, and should be some where between 295-310whp on a DD.

You should hit some where between 275-290whp on a DD.

Hey there is the possibility that you have a factory freak and his IX isn't that powerful.

It's not only the mivec. The larger turbo compressor housing is, to my understanding, the main reason for the added power. The revised map on the 9 is also guilty of making them faster. If you were conducting a study only on the effect of MIVEC you would have to be on the same upgraded evo 9 turbo. I believe the mivec is more responsible for the better power delivery(sooner and more sustained powerband on the 9s) than anything else.

Dont be upset when his Ix makes more power. It is a well known fact by now. Sneak in some cams on your VIII so you can stay competitive
