Question Auto Mech/Auto Tech books suggestions???

Does anyone here know a very good book about Basic Automotive Technology or Basic Automotive Mechanic????? Perhaps, something about Maintenance & Repair. I wanted to take some classes but they dont have the schedule Im looking for YET and i have to wait till next year to enroll for one. So in the mean time, I'd like to start on my own.
I would like to learn how to install parts by myself such as TBE, Gauges, etc which everyone is saying "easy to install." So far, I only know maintenance such as Oil Change, Air filter change, replacing sparkplug and even tire rotation (yea i know its not impressive at all).

The sad thing is I own an EvoIX and wanted to "touch it" (the engine bay) but afraid to mess up for not having enough knowledge and budget for any extra stupid mistakes.

I tried learning from here by reading other people's post and under "how to" forum, but I still have a lot of basic questions I cant ask because someone would just say "do a research."

Anyways, Id like to have any information how I can start with this. I believe there are some here who did the same way when they first started learning about Auto Tech stuff.

Boost, PSI, wheel offset, dyno numbers, all this stuff i here all the time, i dont fully understand everything which makes it hard for me to decide my own mod to start with.

thanks for the help

One tip next to finding the Evo manual/searching here....many answers you'll find by looking other places. Google things like "wheel offset" and there's sites that explain everything in detail.

Edit...things like TBE install are very straight foward. When I was a noob working on hondas, I'd just get under the car, look then any questions search. If you don't know basics, spend a LOT of time searching to learn them.

Dave Buschur has published a book on the 4G63 engine. I've never encountered anyone who had a copy but I'd wager it makes for some good reading. Contact Buschur Racing.

"the book is oriented to Evos imported to Britain, which are different from those imported to the U.S."

Get the Mitsu Evo IX service manual, it is has procedures for part install/removal, maintenance, troubleshooting etc and is pretty step-by-step. If you search around on socalevo.net there is a link to it, its about 150MB of PDF's.

I'm reading Street Turbocharging by Mark Warner. Got through the first 3 chapters and there is a lot of good info. It had better reviews on Amazon than the Maximum Boost book... but I'll probably read that one too.

A good "beginner book" that I read is Car Hacks and Mods for Dummies. It has a lot of general info about common mods to imports and is very easy to read.
