Well first, I think it may be illegal for a dealership to make a sale contingent upon the purchase of an extended warranty or something similar. The Pit Pass would fall into that category, it's a limited maintenance program. I'd have to do some digging to back this up, though.

But as far as cancelling the Pit Pass, you have to notify the dealership or the company that administers the Pit Pass of your intention to cancel and return the Pit Pass coupon book as well. I cancelled mine before I got the coupon book, but did end up mailing the coupon book once I got it in. However I mailed the book last week and got my refund a few days afterwards, so I think they took the cancellation without the coupon book. It's more just their insurance that you don't try to use the Pit Pass after you cancel it.

In any case, as with most extended warranties, the refund is sent to the lienholder of the vehicle. For the Pit Pass you are entitled to a full refund if cancelled within the first 60 days, less a $50 processing fee. Otherwise the refund is pro-rated based on usage (months/miles, maybe even services?). It took me about 6 weeks to get my refund. I cancelled on 4/16/03 and the refund was posted to my loan on Monday, 6/2/03.

I've not done it myself, just read the back of the pitpass receipt. There was some guy on the forum who did it though, he said it was real easy. If you searched on pit pass there's a good chance you'd find the original posts.

Well, it has seen the shop 7 times already and would go into it again if I didn't trade it in. It's not really the car. It's the dealers that I'm fed up with. The only reason it's been there that many times is because they can't fix **** on the first visit, and if they do, it's not really fixed and comes back. I've had some bad experiences with them.

Example, a week after I bought the car I noticed my two drivers side rims were messed up. I had them replace them, but I thought it was kinda wierd that they had 03' Cobra rims in stock. Anyways, after about three months I was putting some tire shine on and noticed the front tire was going the wrong direction, so I just figured they mounted it on wrong. Was I ever wrong. I went to the dealer and showed them and they brought up my history on the computer. Right there in front of me it said on the screen, "take two rims off the black conv. and put on the yellow Cobra." I got pissed, being the conv. that they took the rims and tires off of had about 8000 miles on it and they didn't even bother to take the tires off and swapped them with my rims and tires that had 480 mile on them. I ended up getting two new rims and tires, but they took them off another brand new Cobra on the lot, put mine on it and put it back out for sale.

My car also smokes as I start it up. Looks to be oil smoke. I've had two dealers tell me it's normal. I started my car at a BP one night and it smoked so bad BP looked to be on fire. I had a fellow Cobra owner look at me and say, "that is not normal." So I'm stuck with a smoking $35K car that I can't get no one to work on.

Do you think I should keep it now?

Like I said, it's not the car. It's the dealer. Ford has nothing to do with what goes on at the dealer. I know, I work for Ford Mo. Co. making the the F-250, 350, 450, 550, and Excursion.

Comments like that only shows your ignorance and makes me want to keep the Cobra for people just like you.

About the smoking, I've talked to SVT myself and they told me the same thing. They also said it should go away by the time I reach 10,000 miles. I just don't want to take the chance of it not going away.
