my insurance put my car under oz rally as well..and i am using progressive, i gave them the vin, and also sent them a copy of the window sticker... they said when they pulled the vin up from the computer..it showed up as a oz, so..i guess i am owning a 30,000 dollar oz rally to them

From: its not where you at, its where you from!
When I called prgressive they asked for a VIN number and the LEINHOLDER info. The rep and their supervisor both reveiwed the information and they came back to me with "it's a Mitsu Lancer EVOLUTION, correct? I am under 25 and I have one speeding "infraction" so my insurance is roughly $190/month. Keep in mind I am single, under 25, and have a moving violation. Funny thing is that it is only $25 more a month than a Nissan SE-R Spec V...Hmmmmm!! I made sure that the insurance was correct before I bought the car. As for the premiums, the prices are based on the car and it's crash test ratings, atleast that's waht I was told by Progressive. The price won't go up on the car, just the driver. Think of it this way, if it were based on the people who own the car and their records, the prices for Civics and integras would be APSOLUTELY REDICULOUS!! NO money for fart cans and huge wings, they would be spending their hard earned pizza route money on insurance!!

Do they really record all conversations? They classified mine as an OZ Rally, even after I told them it was an Evo and gave them the VIN, no mistakes. On the insurance card, it's just listed as a Mitsubishi with no model. On the application I sent back to them, I crossed out where they put OZ Rally, and wrote in Evo, to make sure I made an effort to tell them. I'm not complaining about my rates, but I sure hope I never run into any trouble...and most of all, any increases in rates.

I got my EVO one day after it hit the dealership. State Farm said the VIN was invalid at first then after that was cleared up I had the same deal, EVO was not yet listed in their database. I asked if this was a problem and the agent said no and the $30K value is listed in my policy. My insurance card just reads 2003 Mitsu Lancer and I pay $92 per month which is less that my wife's RAV 4!

Thats impossible... unless your vin is messed up.. check this out..

HOW TO READ YOUR VIN #

straight from mitsu's website
http://www.mitsucars.com/pdf/03VINs.pdf

your 5th and 6th letter/number should be:
H8 for lancer evolution.

I just pick up my evo a week ago. My agent had to go research the evo but found it. So the evo is out there now, by the way I had an Integra GSR before I got a refound on my insurance.

GAP insurance on a new Evo is about $360 (one-time payment, can be rolled into the loan).

Yup...that's what GAP is for...it GUARANTEES payoff of the loan if the car is totalled.

As I said in a previous thread, I am 21 and pay $47 a month full coverage for my Evo. It also did not come up in their computers after giving my insurance company the vin#. I told them it was a $30,000 car. So if something happens, the car is still insured for $30,000.

I am wondering though, how much is the insurance on an Sti?

My insurance agent said the EVO is less to insure then the STI. By a few hundred.

Insurance companies should have the rating for the Evo by now. Mine did over a month ago. The rating is a 19 which is up there. A OZ is only a 10.

get gap insurace. My family has been with our agent for 18 years and he said that the companies dont know what an EVO is right now so prices are to our benefit. Until you wreck.. With out the gap insurance you will get paid on the price of the OZ not the EVO.

I dont want to pay for a lawyer to battle with a billion dollar industry so I pay for gap coverage. It is still cheaper than my old 2.5rs.

F em. insurance itself is a fraud. plan old legal extorsion.
