Got my evo back in April. told my insurance agent about it, and he didn't even ask what kind of car it was. He just wanted the VIN #. So I gave it to him. Week later I get my card in the mail and it's an OZ Rally. Oh well, I gave him what he asked for. I have GAP protection as well. I'm currently paying about $400/6 months

I'm paying $389 for 6 months for full coverage. I told them it was an Evo, showed the person on the phone it was an Evo via Mitsu's web site, stated I paid $30,812 for the car, gave them the VIN, etc. They said it came back with a 18 rating, even thoug they couldn't find an exact match on the car. This can't be fraud.

Now you know how to read your VIN
The 5th space should be an H
and
The 6th space should be an 8
H8 is lancer evolution......

Well, Just got my new insurance cards as well. The first set said Lancer and now they say Lancer EVO with a new rate but it is only about 65 dollars higher than the Lancer. I am impressed becasuse they argued with me when I told them the price and that it was an EVO but I guess they got the picture now and I do feel better to be fully covered!

I dont know if this has been said but becuase my grandfather owns his own state farm i asked him. he said you'll be fine registering your car as an OZ or ES lancer. but if you every file a claim. and i mean anything, even a litle fender bender. the insurance company can deny you coverage on a technicallity. this has happened to him amny a time. if say for example the lady on the fone types your VIN in worng even by one number your car is effictively NOT insured. so i would check this out big time and make sure that you get it in writing if possible that they insurer will cover your car in the event of a claim. and always check your little insurance card to see if the VIN is right. you could be sitting on the curb waiting for the bus if you total your car. and yes this is highly immoral but it has happend and my G-pa has been sued many a time and won some of them. so just a word of caution

got my Evo 2 weeks ago. my insurance company just wanted the VIN number, and of course gave it to them. I am 29, I have one speeding ticket and one property damage claim on record for the past 3 yrs, and my ins. for 6 mo. is $875.00 - I diddnt tell them its an EVO, the VIN on the card I rec'd yesterday is the correct VIN, but the card says "Mitsubishi Lancer" no Evo, O.Z. no ES ... I DO have GAP insurance though.....
Mercury Ins. does not have the Evo in thier database, and in 2 mo. both infractions on my record will be 3+ years old, and hopefully they figure out its an EVO after my rates go down LOL...

I mean, there's nothing else I can do. I sent the application letters writing "Lancer Evolution" on it, I told them over the phone (which was recorded) it's an Evo, and I also sent them the contract of sale, which has the VIN, price, and name of the car. If anything, they are the ones frauding me (if that's a word). If anything happens, I will raise hell .

I didn't read through this entier thread so I'm not sure if its been covered or not.
But misrepresenting, fraudulently omiting, or falsely stating any key fact relating to a material part of the risk can cause an entire policy to become voidable at the insurers notice. Also if a claim araises and any part of the risk was misrepresented the insurer can choose to avoid part, or all of the risk.
HOWEVER
if it was an innocent ommision, and it is strictly the insurer's fault, then thats that. They ****ed up, they pay the claim.
I think, if you sent them all the papers and they said "Lancer Evolution" and they simply rated it wrong, then I would think laibility would be placed on the insurer, and you should not have a problem... unless they find this thread of course and proove who you are. This thread can prove it's a falsefied statement.
This is all part of the Inusrance Act in canada though, it may apply differently down there.

it's bad karma dude. don't wanna mess w/important stuff like that, the evo's prone to have **** done to it w/o it bein ur fault. i parked my evo in a empty parking lot and an hr or so later, my friend come in my lab to tell me that it was hit. so call the agent & tell her that u need coverage for an evo not an oz.

you are most definatly right blewbyu
if you get into a huge accident causing a couple hundred G's in bodily injury, its going to be your broker who's *** is on the line, not the insurer's, and they are not going to admit liability without a court ruling. It is just better to have proper insurance.

For the people who've wrecked/ totaled or had their Evos wrecked, what insurance carrier were/ are you using and how much were/are you paying. Were there any hiccups with the insurance claim from the incident?
