smell coming from the Manifold normal?

Can you guys please tell me if this is normal for my IX?

Well, whenever I go to 5500kRPM - 7000kRPM with my window open, I smell something coming from the engine. I really cant describe the smell but it seems like it was coming from its exhaust manifold.

I remember back then when I accidentally rev the car up to 7100RPM on neutral, I smelled the same smell. When I open the hood to see or smell where its coming from, it seems that it was from the manifold.

Please bare with my description but Is this normal?

Assuming you still have the stock exhaust manifold or not, I'm guessing you might have an exhaust leak somewhere.

Have the dealer check, its free. It also could be overspray burning off the exhaust or motor. How many miles on the car.

From your description it sounds like it may be a clutch smell. Are you familair with what a burnt clutch smells like?

I get that same smell from my IX. It's not the clutch. The dealership said it would go away over time, it's just the coating on the exhaust. 4000 miles later I still have it. don't think it's a leak, either. Something plastic melting in the engine bay most likely.

i wouldnt say its the clutch, because Yes, i smelled a burnt clutch before. my IX has 9500k on it, almost 10k. i had the dealeship checked it once for me a month after i smelled it the first time. they didnt say anything. perhaps, i need to come back with them have them specifically check it...sh*t i really hope theres no leak, but if there were leaks, shouldnt i be smelling that all the time...

to be more specific, it doesnt happen everytime i go 5500rpm to 7000rpm...there were few times, like this morning on my way to work, here's what happend. I was on the right lane going to carpool lane in the traffic. I had it on 3rd around 4k, changed lane then shift to 4th around 5500rpm then shifted on 5th around 6k. Thats where i started to smell it again.

Sometimes, i even smell it when i stop on a stop light or sometimes i can smell it through the air vents(if thats what you call it)

I think I know what smell you are talking about. Mine kind of smelled like a mix of paint and exhaust fumes.

I could be totally wrong, but I attributed it to the paint on my manifold heat shield getting hot. That smell seemed to go away once I sanded all the paint off since it was fading fast anyway.

yes, something with exhaust fumes and something else to make the smell stronger...its not the kind of smell that makes you dizzy instead its really strong that it hurts your nose. anyone has this issue?
