31/26 mpg after O2 change
Its not rocket science...
Or you can get the OBDII Scantech program from MalibuJacks's (http://www.aktivematrix.com) site and use the instant fuel economy mode within the program...
Do it all the time(when I have time to drive that slow). South Lake Tahoe to Willow Springs Raceway and still have 3/8 tank left. If I drive 80mph, I have to stop for gas. That takes 20 minutes. 80mph=1/2 hour shorter drive time. Plus I've seen gas along 395 top over $4.00 a gallon.
ummm... a car has a certain point that gives you optimum gas milage... it's not like if you go slow your saving gas... that's not true... i was driving at speed limit.... actually under speed limit... 45 on the belt pkwy... to get home... by th eend of the night... i only got like 32 miles on quarter tank... so yea you can go 80 on the highway and still be able to achieve good gas milage...
I am interested in seeing the fuel trims as well....
This is what I don't get. I have 57k miles on my '03, absolutely no performance mods, no flashes etc. I haven't even bothered to change my original plugs yet. With NO highway driving, I almost always get over 320 miles to a tank with my record being 354. I'm lazy when it comes to tire pressures, so I'm sure I'm a little low all the time as well.
I haven't gotten more than 260 to a tank--and average around 230. I also drive the speed limit most of the time, have proper tire pressures, and have a custom AMS tune. I usually fill up w/ 11.xx gallons on any given tank. MY average MPG is around 20-21.
Given this is probably the average setup for most drivers as well, what is it about some people's carss that are giving the claimed 25+mpg?!

I drive my 06 MR 80% Hyway miles, I drive it hard mostly. As it is meant to be driven but not stupid. I change the fluids often, I have mods in my sig. I get anywhere from 17 to 21 mpg. I average 80-90 on the hyway. I shift whenever, I drive my car and not watch the rpms trying to gain MPG's. I can MAYBE understand on the first few tanks getting good mielage as the factory Engine is Oil is thinner or prob 5w20 for engine break-in which I got better mileage before I chnaged out the factory oil at 500 miles on the odometer. But getting anywhere close to 30mpg, I just cant believe. Not calling anyone anything but come on. If anyone gets anywhere near 30mpg they are tryng to get 30mpg, driving like 40 mph on the hyway, coasting down hill, not revving past 3500...but the Evo is NOT a economy car, I guess if you want it to be then so be it....but I still dont believe anywhere near 30mpg. I know allot of people on this forum dont even have Evos, but are FAKERS.....

Just saying I got 1000 hp doesnt mean much when others are trying to achieve the same. You have to tell us how you got it. The no higway, and unsure tire pressure is a bit helpful on the scenerios but you must state your driving habbit. And feathering the clutch or driving with an egg under the accel pedal is not enough. I dont mean to sound like I'm flaming you, just letting you know that it would be helpfull if you included your shift points and cruise rpm range.
Ok...the man replaced his o2 sensor....how many of you have actually done this and experienced these results....i see alot of you that replaced the o2 housing but the fact of the matter here is that he replaced the actual o2 sensor as well....
who knows....that $330 OEM denso o2 sensor might be a piece of ish and the $70 universal bosch replacement might be a bit more accurate in reading the fuel and allowing for better fuel trim adjustments and allowing it to be a more fine tuned than the OEM was..remember, that the Bosch sensors are the ones used by those that do wideband tuning (like the zeitronix and the LC-1) although this sensor in question is in fact a narrowband sensor..lets here from those that actually replaced the OEM denso sensor with this after market Bosch sensor and let all the others see what results are provided instead of polluting this thread with "no way" or "yeah right"
I will be getting this replacement here pretty soon and see whats up....might just be worth it and be a good fuel economy mod for those tight in the pockets.....and for me in Cali at $3.49 a gallon of 91 oct....i can afford to try the $70 mod once to see if the fuel consumption increases in the long run since just one tank of gas is in the $45 range now a days...

But hey if this mod works out, I'll be the next on the list to switch over.
Please share your results when you try it out.
Not really helpful untill you mention what rpm range you cruise at and at what rpms you decide to shift to the next gear.

I certainly don't drive the car like an old woman.
Does anyone shift the same for a whole tank of gas? There's really no way of analyzing my driving habits, since it's always mixed driving, stoplight to stoplight, sometimes I catch them all, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I catch traffic just right and rip it around corners, sometimes I go from a stop to over 100 on a pull to get around traffic at merges. My driving is always different. I will tell you this much, during my personal record 354mi tank, I was ticketed for doing 71 in a 35mph zone.

I certainly don't drive the car like an old woman.I also might do a WOT run or not once in a while, but majority of the time if I'm not overtaking someone or getting on an on ramp or trying to make it through the light, what ever road condition may arrive etc... I shift at 3k rpms, and keep my cruising rpms around 2.5k rpms. I basically try to follow the EVO manual book suggestion.
And yes I try to shift the same through the whole tank of gas or next fill up ( that is, with the driving situation and road condition permitting).
