To Be Or Not To Be-EVO vs. M3
4 of my good friends have M3s. Three are E36s and my neighbor has a nice E46. They aren't as fast, nor track as well as the EVO, but there is a comfort and sophistication about them that is incredible.
My neighbor's E46 is pretty hot, and we've been researching Active's new supercharger system for it. That would put a damper on my EVO

I dont know about the LSD, but it does have 2 settings of traction control on and then the 3rd option of it being off.
I drove the 335I, that thing is powerful fast and it pulls all the way to 7k rpm redline. 300 tq kicks in at about 1.4k rpms and doesnt die down untill around 5k rpms. Very nice car, and awesome handling and braking as well. The interior is also very nice with very comfortable seats and many options. Whats funny is when you sit in the car, a little hand comes out and pushes the seat belt to you to grab lol.

I think my friend got it for 40k. MSRP at the bmw website is for 40,800. So about 42k fully loaded sounds reasonable, unless they mark it up that much.
Funny thing is he took it for service like 4 or 5 times. Check Engine light came on and some sensors needed to be replaced. According to BMW if the CEL light comes on you should stop driving and push this OnStar type button in the car that calls for free towing service and they give you a rental as well.

My experience with the M BMW's was a new '02 M Coupe (same engine, smaller lighter car). The '01 & 02 M Coupes were reputed to be BMW's fastest car. It could certainly accelerate hard from 100 mph plus and is good GT/Autobahn car. I am only 408 miles into a new Evo IX SE, so I cannot judge the high rpm performance and am still going easy on the brakes. My impression, and maybe others will confirm, says that the Evo can corners harder and faster with less fuss and correction. As a life-time Front-engine/mid-engine RWD driver, I have to say how impressed I am with Mitsu's AWD. I think the Mitsu is a better, more rewarding car and the drive system is much faster and more sophisticated.

BTW, something interesting to note about the E90 vehicles and newer... no more dipstick, and lifetime transmission and rear-diff fluids... in other words, no drain plugs for transmission or differential housings.
I say go with the m3. I don't think you will be disappointed, the m3 is still a pretty sporty car. If you want 1/4 mile times and HP numbers then no, its not a good idea. But for a pretty comfortable, good looking, and sporty driving car then go for it. It is way more relaxing to drive then an Evo and overall pretty fun.
all BMW are all out rated. u see them every where! evo's are way cooler. but thats up to u. if u drive fast with ur car now and then drive fast with the bmw its not going to make a differnce from getting a ticket or not. but gl on ur decison!

, she just told me
