To Be Or Not To Be-EVO vs. M3
be prepared to pay if you want to play. I looked at e46 M3's before I got my evo. I would have had to buy a 2001-2002 for what I got my EVO for. That means no warranty and high miles.
Plus, aftermarket for the M3 is ridiculous.
I paid $400 for my catback used. Catbacks for the M3 can run upwards of $2000 and they're not even Titanium or anything.

the intial cost is obvious, thats not the problem. at the end of every month you know what ur insurance is going to be and you what the car payment will be.
do you have enough money to fix anything else? im sure the motor is probably 10k
tranny is probably 5k, just guessing.... everything is probably double...
the non-hidden costs what kills. i got the evo for 32, but i've spent probably 3000 on maintnence maybe more..... i didnt realize a clutch is 1500 then another 500 to put it in... rotors are 500, pads are 250.... the m3 is probably double...

If you ask my dad he would say M3, because he is hardcore Bimmer man, but I say trade for M3 then trade M3 for the nine. For two reasons. One to get out from under the salvage and two I know Mitsu well be more reliable to you in the long run.
I'm a proud owner of the M3, and that thing is just sexy.
I'm also looking to get an EVO 8 as a daily driver.
If you plan to do something with the M3 such as modification, you won't get much power from it unless you SPEND. For 30 more HP, it will run you between 4-6k dollars. If you would go the Force Induction way, then you can buy another cheap car for that amount of money. It is not cheap. I did nothing to the M3 except for Suspension and exhaust. It's good looking, loud, and nice all around performance.
I just changed my xenon yesterday and the friggin bulb costs me 205 dollars each, so it's very expensive to actually maintain.
10w60 oil only and it can only be had from BMW dealership. You might live out the warranty for now if you buy the 04, but when it runs out be prepared for a hurting.

I couldn't have talked him out of it any better, Yes the M3 is a hella car, but you better have a bottomless wallet. Very sexy car but so is the EVO. For less money and less mods you can have a better car than the M3 with the evo. Resell may not be all that great either, I don't know about it though.
I think their are some real good posts from former and current M3 owners as well as some that also own the EVO.
I think the attention thing with the EVO for a twenty year old is a real problem. I just am not sure you will get any less with the M3. If you drive fast, you will get the attention in both cars... It is a very nice M3, judging by the pictures. I think the point everyone makes about the cost of maintenance and modifications is valid. If you are keeping it stock and can still swing the cost of maintenance (warranty?????) and insurance, get the M3. "Chicks dig it." Just really think about that before you jump on a "good deal." Otherwise, if you are looking to mod or don't want to get saddled with the BMW repair costs keep the EVO. You could get rid of the wing, as was suggested by someone else. That thing and any big tailpipe are sure to attract attention.
