Tsukuba Battle
The video's here, the name is evo8andsti.wmv... it's a track battle from Best Motoring April 03 between JDM Evo 8 GSR, RS (5 speed), RS (6 speed), JDM STi and JDM STi Spec C.
I need someone to host the video before my bandwidth gets crazy.
Thanks.

For those having problems, you need to have WMP 9.0 to view it. It sucks that it's in WMV format, would someone convert it to a more compatible version like MPEG-1 or MPEG-4? I tried converting it to MP4 but because it was a video-audio multiplexed track it had problems and WMV was the only way out.
poknatcha just download the video from the link... emailing it to you is going to be risky and not very sensible since SMTP doesn't support resumable connections for interrupted sessions.

hey
cool vid. really shows how close these cars are when in comes down to it. i know the GSR took the race, but all the cars looked like they are insanely fast.
bad karma
yeah, that is the jdm STi. i would love to see a similar race on that same circut with the USDM cars. it seems the battle in the US is about een track wise, although the EVO is still the "fun factor" fav amongst the writters, and people who have driven both cars. it is still amazing to me how similar these cars are in performance, but how they totally drive completely different. really amazing...

There was a post-race analysis/commentary after the video.
The summary is that although on paper the JDM STi had slightly better torque it couldn't close the distance and overtake the 8 GSR. The cars were pretty even moving off from a standstill. The Spec C had the advantage coming out of corners.
In the 2nd corner at the beginning of the race there was almost an accident because the RS was understeering, possibly because the tires weren't warm enough to provide sufficient traction.
On that particular day they felt that the 8 GSR had the best tires for that track even though they were the stock Advan A046s; no doubt the Spec C would've come closer if it had used better race tires (it was using Bridgestone Potenzas RE070, 225mm).
The E8 GSR driver didn't get a chance to use the 6th gear as the track was not long enough. They felt the gearing ratio was better suited for that track than the STi.
Overall they felt there were major improvements from the outgoing E7, and it was not just a "minor update" (which I agree with having previously owned an E7).

Just simply awsome I tell you... looks like diffrent tires would have changed things up for all of them. Interesting to think how it would have turned out with diffrent tires.
What do you think crufty? Nice to see the 8 perform so well though! GO RED TEAM GO!!

the GSR and STi really were walking away from the normal EVo's and the spec C.
I am sure everyone is going to take this the wrong way but I imagine the US EVO would be close to the RS performance on that track. Since it has about the same equipment.

FresnoKaliRacer: definitely agree with you about the tires. However it was not apparent if the RS models were equipped with Super AYC. My guess is most likely no.
Here's the interesting bit: the GSR comes kitted out with 6-speed, ACD and Super AYC. Since the RS models were using the Enkei rims it would be pretty safe to assume they were using the same rubber as the GSR, meaning the Advan A046 tires. So it would appear that if everything else were equal, the Super AYC alone (and to a certain extent, the driver of the vehicle) could've explained why the GSR was faster around the track as compared to the RS models, despite being heavier (GSR model is the street version with power windows, door locks etc).
dlowman... the USDM Evo is indeed similar to the RS 5 speed but doesn't have the ACD.
There's another part of the program where they show the improvements made in the traction control over the E7. I'll see if I can edit and post it up.
And I need someone to host the videos soon. Please send me a PM if some kind person has spare bandwidth to share. Thanks.
